Shape‐Changing Multiphase Microparticles from Complex Liquid Crystal Emulsions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline network (LCN) microparticles are prepared from single, double (Janus), and triple emulsions through a simple and scalable bulk‐emulsification strategy. Under heating, the particles exhibit robust, reversible, large‐amplitude deformations that depend both on the morphology and the liquid crystals director field configuration.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Effects of Different Fatty Acid Compositions on the Stability of Non-dairy Whipping Cream during Freeze-Thaw Cycles [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
To elucidate the intrinsic connection between the fatty acid composition and crystallization properties of oils and the freeze-thaw stability and whipping properties of whipping cream emulsion, this study investigated the impacts of palm kernel oil (PKO),

Investigations on the emulsifying properties of egg white protein : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Food Technology at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Figures 2.2 & 2.3 were removed for copyright reasons, but Figure 2.1 remains for ease of access.Egg white proteins (EWP) have excellent foaming and gelling functional properties. However, their emulsifying properties are considered poor when compared to

An innovative, fast and facile soft-template approach for the fabrication of porous PDMS for oil-water separation

open access: yes, 2017
Oil wastewater and spilled oil caused serious environmental pollution and damage to public health in the last years. Therefore, considerable efforts are made to develop sorbent materials able to separate oil from water with high selectivity and sorption ...

Evidence for Marginal Stability in Emulsions

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
We report the first measurements of the effect of pressure on vibrational modes in emulsions, which serve as a model for soft frictionless spheres at zero temperature. As a function of the applied pressure, we find that the density of states D(omega) exhibits a low-frequency cutoff omega*, which scales linearly with the number of extra contacts per ...

Metronidazole‐Loaded Cyclodextrin Nanogels for Antibacterial Therapy and Microbiota Regulation in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A methacrylamide β‐cyclodextrin‐based nanogel (MACD nGel) is developed to load the antimicrobial drug Metronidazole (MNZ) for topical delivery for the treatment of periodontitis. It is demonstrated that cyclodextrin nanogel (nGel) loaded with metronidazole provides an efficient drug delivery route but also has potential clinical applications and offers

Characteristics of stratified flows of Newtonian/non-Newtonian shear-thinning fluids

open access: yes, 2017
Exact solutions for laminar stratified flows of Newtonian/non-Newtonian shear-thinning fluids in horizontal and inclined channels are presented. An iterative algorithm is proposed to compute the laminar solution for the general case of a Carreau non ...
