A. Representative Western blots. α (90 kDa), β (95 kDa) and γ ENaC protein signals are found in blots probed with specific antibodies against α (Santa Cruz, sc-22239), β (Santa Cruz, sc-21013), and γ (Abcam, ab3468) subunits. B.

The Role of ENaC in Hypernatremia
ENaC in renal physiology controls sodium excretion to achieve blood pressure regulation through the renin‐angiotensin‐aldosterone system. Our recent findings suggest an additional aspect to this channel's regulation of sodium and water homeostasis.

The epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) is essential for osmoregulation in tetrapod vertebrates. There are four ENaC-subunits (α, β, γ, δ) which form αβγ- or δβγ-ENaCs. While αβγ-ENaC is a ‘maintenance protein’ controlling sodium homeostasis, δβγ-ENaC might

Ubiquitination of renal ENaC subunits in vivo
Ubiquitination of the epithelial Na+channel (ENaC) in epithelial cells may influence trafficking and hormonal regulation of the channels. We assessed ENaC ubiquitination (ub-ENaC) in mouse and rat kidneys using affinity beads to capture ubiquitinated proteins from tissue homogenates and Western blot analysis with anti-ENaC antibodies.

Optogenetic Control of PIP2 Interactions Shaping ENaC Activity
The activity of the epithelial Na+ Channel (ENaC) is strongly dependent on the membrane phospholipid phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2). PIP2 binds two distinct cationic clusters within the N termini of β- and γ-ENaC subunits (&beta ...

Background Epithelial cells are exposed to a variety of mechanical stimuli. Epithelial Na+ channels (ENaC) mediate sodium transport across apical membranes of epithelial cells that line the distal nephron, airway and alveoli, and distal colon.

Select amino acids recover cytokine-altered ENaC function in human bronchial epithelial cells.
The airway epithelium plays a pivotal role in regulating mucosal immunity and inflammation. Epithelial barrier function, homeostasis of luminal fluid, and mucociliary clearance are major components of mucosal defense mechanisms.
