Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Temperature-sensitive mutants of Japanese encephalitis virus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 1985
Ten stable temperature-sensitive mutants of Japanese encephalitis virus were isolated after mutagenesis by growth of cloned wild-type virus in the presence of the nucleic acid precursor analogs 5-fluorouracil and 5-azacytidine. Mutants were selected which grew at least 100-fold better at 33 degrees C than at 41 degrees C.

Effect of blood meals and mating on biodemographic characteristics of Aedes albopictus

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
Lifespan did not differ between virgin and mated males and females. The number of blood meals (one and two) significantly reduced adult lifespan compared with those with no blood meal. The effect of the second blood meal doubled females' egg production and their reproductive output.

Specific detection of dengue and Zika virus antibodies using envelope proteins with mutations in the conserved fusion loop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Detection of antibodies is widely used for the diagnosis of infections with arthropod-borne flaviviruses including dengue (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV). Due to the emergence of ZIKV in areas endemic for DENV, massive co-circulation is observed and methods

Higher uptake of common adult vaccines in Australian blood donors: An analysis of linked registry data

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Understanding differences in blood donor vaccine uptake is essential for accurately interpreting serosurveillance of vaccine‐preventable diseases and other research using donor samples and/or data. We aimed to assess vaccination uptake in donors and non‐donors.

Change in Japanese Encephalitis Virus Distribution,Thailand

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008

Zika virus tropism and interactions in myelinating neural cell cultures: CNS cells and myelin are preferentially affected [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The recent global outbreak of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection has been linked to severe neurological disorders affecting the peripheral and central nervous systems (PNS and CNS, respectively). The pathobiology underlying these diverse clinical phenotypes are
