In the zebrafish, endoderm and mesoderm are derived from cells that involute into an internal layer, the hypoblast, whereas ectoderm is derived from cells that remain in the outer layer, the epiblast.

Actin cytoskeleton of extraembryonic endoderm and teratocarcinoma-derived endoderm cells

Distinct F-actin- and myosin-containing stress fibers were observed in situ in many endoderm cells of parietal yolk sacs from 11-day mouse embryos. In visceral endoderm (VE) such fibers were not seen, and F-actin was concentrated in the cell periphery.

Endodermal sinus tumor of the clitoris

Abstract A primary endodermal sinus tumor of the clitoris in a 2-year-old is discussed. The serum level of alpha fetoprotein was not elevated. A favorable outcome after exploratory laparotomy and wide local excision might relate to early diagnosis or less virulent patterns of spread secondary to the clitoral location.

J. Y., a 16-month-old Asian girl, presented with suspected gross hematuria. Physical examination revealed the source of bleeding to be the vagina. No masses were palpable on examination and she was otherwise in good health. Urinalysis and multichannel chemistry (Chem 20) panel were normal. Serum a-fetoprotein (AFP) was 16,500 ng./ml.
