Endothelial nitric oxide synthase transgenic models of endothelial dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yesPflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 2010
Endothelial production of nitric oxide is critical to the regulation of vascular responses, including vascular tone and regional blood flow, leukocyte-endothelial interactions, platelet adhesion and aggregation, and vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation.

Reduced Graphene Oxide Enhances the Vascular Organization and Contractile Performance of Fibrin‐Gelatin‐Based Engineered Cardiac Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Fibrin–gelatin hydrogels functionalized with reduced graphene oxide create a mechanically stable and bioactive 3D environment for engineered cardiac tissue. The composite matrix promotes endothelial lumen formation, enhances sarcomeric protein expression, and increases contractile performance of embedded cardiomyocytes.

Tonic and phasic nitric oxide signals in hippocampal long-term potentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nitric oxide ( NO) participates in long-term potentiation (LTP) and other forms of synaptic plasticity in many different brain areas but where it comes from and how it acts remain controversial.

Atherosclerosis and the Two Faces of Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 1998
Nitric oxide is a principal factor involved in the antiatherosclerotic properties of the endothelium.1 2 3 NO interferes in vitro with key events in the development of atherosclerosis, such as monocyte and leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium4 5 6 7 as well as platelet–vessel wall interaction.8 9 10 NO also decreases endothelial permeability and ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

pass graft surgery. Her medical history revealed coronary artery disease, a coronary artery bypass graft four years ago, hypertension, hypothyroidism, a right below-the-knee amputation two years ago, and a left toe amputation one year ago. Last year she underwent left femoral-popliteal bypass graft surgery; during the past four years, she has had ...

A Rare De Novo Missense Mutation in IFT122 Confers a Genetic Susceptibility Factor of Idiopathic Pediatric Uveitis Via Trio‐based Whole‐Exome Sequencing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rare de novo IFT122‐A773E variant is identified in idiopathic pediatric uveitis and shown to exacerbate retinal inflammation and barrier dysfunction. Mechanistically, the variant enhances IFT43 interaction, elevates calcium signaling, and activates the MEK/ERK/FRA1 axis, revealing a previously unrecognized cilia‐associated pathway that may increase ...

Sildenafil Citrate-Restored eNOS and PDE5 Regulation in Sickle Cell Mouse Penis Prevents Priapism Via Control of Oxidative/Nitrosative Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sildenafil citrate revolutionized the practice of sexual medicine upon its federal regulatory agency approval approximately 15 years ago as the prototypical phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor indicated for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.

Liquid Gallium Nanozyme Coatings Enable Sustained Nitric Oxide Generation With Antioxidant and Anti‐Inflammatory Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liquid gallium (Ga) acts as a catalytic center for nitric oxide (NO) generation within a tannic acid–zirconium metal–phenolic network coating. Stabilized Ga nanoparticles catalyze S‐nitrosothiol decomposition through surface electron transfer, enabling controlled NO production, enhancing endothelial biocompatibility, and providing antioxidant and anti ...
