A Human Engineered Heart Tissue‐Derived Lipotoxic Diabetic Cardiomyopathy Model Revealed Early Benefits of Empagliflozin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a human engineered heart tissue‐derived model of diabetic cardiomyopathy that accurately replicates the dynamic changes in the structural, contractile, and electrophysiological properties of the myocardium. Furthermore, this model is used to confirm the direct protective effects of empagliflozin on the heart through an SGLT2 off ...

Correlation between plasma endothelin-1 levels and severity of septic liver failure quantified by maximal liver function capacity (LiMAx test). A prospective study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
To investigate the relationship between the degree of liver dysfunction, quantified by maximal liver function capacity (LiMAx test) and endothelin-1, TNF-α and IL-6 in septic surgical patients.28 septic patients (8 female, 20 male, age range 35-80y) were

Neutrophil–Endothelium Interaction Mediated by S100A9 Promotes Pulmonary Vascular Remodeling During Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the critical mechanisms underlying pulmonary hypertension progression, with a focus on the novel role of neutrophil‐derived S100A9 in endothelial dysfunction‐mediated pulmonary vascular remodeling. By integrating human lung samples, multi‐omics analyses, animal models, and mechanistic in vitro studies, it is revealed that how ...

Neural peptidase endothelin-converting enzyme 1 regulates endothelin 1-induced pruritus.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 2014
In humans, pruritus (itch) is a common but poorly understood symptom in numerous skin and systemic diseases. Endothelin 1 (ET-1) evokes histamine-independent pruritus in mammals through activation of its cognate G protein-coupled receptor endothelin A ...

Endothelin-1 and osteoblastic metastasis [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2003
When cancer metastasizes to distant sites, it essentially forms an army of occupation. Just as the presence of an army of occupation alters the behavior of the preexisting resident population, the resident host cells react in a variety of ways to the presence of the metastatic cancer cells.

Astrocytic ET‐1 System Determines Microglia Phenotype Following Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study reveals that astrocytic ET‐1 system is solely activated by thrombin following SCI via RhoA/NF‐κB and MAPKs/NF‐κB signal pathway. The release of astrocytic ET‐1 drives microglia polarization toward M1 phenotype through YAP signaling via ETA and ETB receptors.

Connexin 43 plays a role in pulmonary vascular reactivity in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a chronic condition characterized by vascular remodeling and increased vaso-reactivity. PAH is more common in females than in males (~3:1).

ERK1/2 signaling dominates over RhoA signaling in regulating early changes in RNA expression induced by endothelin-1 in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy is associated with changes in gene expression. Extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2) and RhoA [activated by hypertrophic agonists (e.g.

Comprehensive genetic analysis of poorly differentiated gastric cancer in young females

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Although the involvement of female sex hormones in the development of poorly differentiated gastric cancer in young females is controversial, our detailed analysis using RNA‐seq suggested that the female sex hormone, β‐estradiol plays a role in the development of poorly differentiated gastric cancer in young females. Abstract Aim The reasons behind the
