Elucidating the thermal decomposition mechanism of advanced energetic composites based on nitrated cellulose carbamate/ diethylene glycol dinitrate supplemented with organic stabilizers

open access: yesDefence Technology
This study evaluates the stabilizing effect of lignin, extracted from Eucalyptus globulus, on an energetic composite of nitrated cellulose carbamate (NCC) plasticized with diethylene glycol dinitrate (DEGDN), compared to conventional stabilizers 2 ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Exploring the effect of ammonium nitrate on the thermal stability and decomposition kinetics of dual nitrocellulose-nitrostarch-based energetic composites

open access: yesFirePhysChem
This study explores a dual-biopolymer-based energetic composite, emphasizing the synergistic effects achieved by combining nitrocellulose (NC) and nitrostarch (NPS) biopolymers with ammonium nitrate (AN), as an oxidizer.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Enhancing energetic features of HTPB binder through nitro-functionalization and nitrocellulose doping

open access: yesFirePhysChem
This study presents a double modification strategy to enhance hydroxyl‑terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) properties as an energetic binder. HTPB was chemically nitrated to obtain nitro-HTPB (NHTPB), then blended with nitrocellulose (NC) at different ratios

Stochastic simulation of destruction processes in self-irradiated materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Self-irradiation damages resulting from fission processes are common phenomena observed in nuclear fuel containing (NFC) materials. Numerous $\alpha$-decays lead to local structure transformations in NFC materials.
