Current status and possible extension of the global neutron monitor network

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2020
The global neutron monitor network has been successfully used over several decades to study cosmic ray variations and fluxes of energetic solar particles. Nowadays, it is used also for space weather purposes, e.g. alerts and assessment of the exposure to

Predictions of improved confinement in SPARC via energetic particle turbulence stabilization

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
The recent progress in high-temperature superconductor technologies has led to the design and construction of SPARC, a compact tokamak device expected to reach plasma breakeven with up to 25 MW of external ion cyclotron resonant heating (ICRH) power ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The influence of the secondary electrons induced by energetic electrons impacting the Cassini Langmuir probe at Saturn

open access: yes, 2013
The Cassini Langmuir Probe (LP) onboard the Radio and Plasma Wave Science experiment has provided much information about the Saturnian cold plasma environment since the Saturn Orbit Insertion in 2004.

The driving mechanisms of particle precipitation during the moderate geomagnetic storm of 7 January 2005 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
International audienceThe arrival of an interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) triggered a sudden storm commencement (SSC) at ~09:22 UT on the 7 January 2005. The ICME followed a quiet period in the solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field (IMF).

Measurement of fast ion life time using neutron diagnostics and its application to the fast ion instability at ELM suppressed KSTAR plasma by RMP

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
The confinement degradation of the energetic particles during RMP would be a key issue in success of realizing the successful energy production using fusion plasma, because a 3.5 MeV energetic alpha particle should be able to sustain the burning plasma ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Energetic charged particles near Europa [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2000
Galileo energetic particles detector (EPD) data are presented from several close encounters of the spacecraft with Jupiter's moon Europa. These data reveal significant decreases in electron and ion count rates very close to the moon and a few Europa radii downstream. The relation between count rate decreases and satellite absorption is analyzed because

Discovery of a transient radiation belt at Saturn

open access: yes, 2008
Radiation belts have been detected in situ at five planets. Only at Earth however has any variability in their intensity been heretofore observed, in indirect response to solar eruptions and high altitude nuclear explosions. The Cassini spacecraft's MIMI/
