Short-term Classification of Strong Solar Energetic Particle Events Using Multivariate Time-series Classifiers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Solar energetic particle (SEP) events are one of the most crucial aspects of space weather that require continuous monitoring and forecasting. Their prediction depends on various factors, including source eruptions.

ICRF heating schemes for the HL-2M tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
The HL-2M tokamak is a new medium-sized tokamak at SouthWestern Institute of Physics. Two of its key missions are to achieve 10 keV ion temperature and investigate the behavior of energetic particles relevant to burning plasmas.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Sawtooth Stabilization by Energetic Trapped Particles [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1988
Recent experiments involving high-power radio-frequency heating of a tokamak plasma show strong suppression of the sawtooth oscillation. A high-energy trapped-particle population is shown to have a strong stabilizing effect on the internal resistive kink mode. Numerical calculations are in reasonable agreement with experment.

Solar Energetic Particle Track-production Rates at 1 au: Comparing In Situ Particle Fluxes with Lunar Sample-derived Track Densities

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Heavy ( Z > 26) solar energetic particles (SEPs) with energies ∼1 MeV nucleon ^−1 are known to leave visible damage tracks in meteoritic materials. The density of such “solar flare tracks” in lunar and asteroidal samples has been used as a measure of a ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

In-depth Analysis of the 2022 March 28 3He-rich Solar Energetic Particle Event

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
On 2022 March 28, a solar eruption from active region AR 12975 produced a solar energetic particle (SEP) event observed by BepiColombo (BC; 0.57 au), STEREO-A (STA; 0.97 au), GOES (1.0 au), ACE (L1), and Wind (L1).

The Influence of Magnetic Turbulence on the Energetic Particle Transport Upstream of Shock Waves

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
Energetic particles are ubiquitous in the interplanetary space and their transport properties are strongly influenced by the interaction with magnetic field fluctuations.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the
