Reuse in Systems Engineering [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Systems Journal, 2010
Reuse in systems engineering is a frequent but poorly understood phenomenon. Nevertheless, it has a significant impact on system development and on estimating the appropriate amount of systems engineering effort with models like the Constructive Systems Engineering Cost Model (COSYSMO).

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Measurement-based Formulation of Quantum Heat Engine

open access: yes, 2017
There exist two formulations for quantum heat engine that models an energy transfer between two microscopic systems. One is semi-classical scenario, and the other is full quantum scenario.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Influence of Quenching Height and Air Distribution Ratio on Combustion Characteristics of RQL Combustor

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
Based on the principle of the rich-burn/quench/lean-burn (RQL) technology, a low emission combustion chamber for gas turbine was designed. The effects of different heights of quenching structure and distribution ratios of the air flow on the flow field ...

On the engineering of systems of systems: Key challenges for the Requirements Engineering community [PDF]

open access: yes2011 Workshop on Requirements Engineering for Systems, Services and Systems-of-Systems, 2011
Software intensive systems of the future will be ultra large-scale systems of systems. Systems of Systems Engineering focuses on the interoperation of many independent, self-contained constituent systems to achieve a global need. The scale and complexity of systems of systems possess unique challenges for the Requirements Engineering community. Current

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

A comprehensive aerodynamic-thermal-mechanical design method for fast response turbocharger applied in aviation piston engines

open access: yesPropulsion and Power Research
Limited by the poor transient response performance of turbochargers, the dynamic performance of aviation piston engines tends to deteriorate. In a bid to enhance the turbocharger's acceleration capabilities, this study scrutinizes various factors ...

Effects of injection pressure and impingement distance on flat-wall impinging spray flame and its heat flux under diesel engine-like condition

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
Heat loss is one of the main causes of energy losses in modern direct injection diesel engines. This heat loss of the engine occurs during combustion, mainly due to the heat transfer between the impinging spray flame and the piston cavity wall.
