In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

An application of the linear partition for scheduling identical jobs in a restricted cyclic production system

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2014
In this paper, we consider a combinatorial optimization problem in a cyclic production system treating identical jobs. The cyclic production system possesses m machines, and every job consists of n tasks.

Numerical optimization of blank shape and sloped variable blank holder force trajectory for an automotive part

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2021
Sheet metal forming is one of the important manufacturing technologies to produce metal parts. Tearing and wrinkling are major defects in sheet metal forming, and they should strongly be prevented for the high product quality.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Fast EM-driven nature-inspired optimization of antenna input characteristics using response features and variable-resolution simulation models

open access: yesScientific Reports
Utilization of optimization technique is a must in the design of contemporary antenna systems. Often, global search methods are necessary, which are associated with high computational costs when conducted at the level of full-wave electromagnetic (EM ...
