Mobilization of the penicillinase gene in Enterococcus faecalis [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1993
Enterococcus faecalis SF4855 is a beta-lactamase-producing isolate resistant to high levels of gentamicin, with determinants for these resistances on the chromosome. SF4855 transferred both determinants into E. faecalis FA2-2 and UV202 at a frequency of 10(-9) in the presence of the MLS plasmid pYN120.

An Edible Biohybrid Platform Accomplishes In Situ Fenton‐Mediated Enteral Nanoplastics Aging and Excretion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An edible biohybrid platform triggers nanoplastics (NPs) aging and agglomeration by in situ generating hydroxyl radicals within the intestine. The enlarged NPs are unable to penetrate the intestine and are subsequently excreted. Simultaneously, probiotic biofilms reinforce the intestinal barrier.

High rates of multidrug resistance in Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium isolated from inpatients and outpatients in Taiwan

open access: yes, 2014
Longitudinal national data on resistance in Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium from different sources in Taiwan are rare. The present study analyzed data from the Taiwan Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance program to address this issue.

Characterization of vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1989
Vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus faecium 180, a clinical isolate from England, was studied. Resistance to vancomycin was transferable by conjugation to other enterococci. Expression of resistance was inducible and coincided with the appearance of a new membrane protein.

Multi‐Targeting Carnosic Acid Kills Drug‐Resistant Helicobacter pylori With Narrow‐Spectrum Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Carnosic acid selectively eradicates drug‐resistant Helicobacter pylori through a multi‐targeted mechanism involving urease inhibition, membrane disruption, and biofilm eradication. It exhibits no detectable resistance, potent in vivo efficacy, and minimal impact on gut microbiota, positioning it as a promising narrow‐spectrum lead compound against ...

Genome Characterization of Enterococcus faecalis Bacteriophage EFKL

open access: yes, 2023
We characterized the complete genome of the lytic Enterococcus faecalis phage EFKL, which was isolated from a sewage treatment plant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The phage, which was classified in the genus Saphexavirus, has a 58,343-bp double-stranded DNA
