Microbiota of Tayohounta, a fermented baobab flavour food of Benin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The present work provides data on the microbial composition of Tayohounta, a product of natural fermentation of baobab seed kernels. Samples were collected from 3 different small scale producers from Benin at the end of the fermentation process ...

Fatal spinal cord compression in a horse with chronic actinobacterial cranial nuchal bursitis

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 14‐year‐old warmblood gelding was managed for waxing and waning cranial nuchal bursitis for 2 years. Intensive medical and surgical management was not curative, and the patient was subjected to euthanasia after becoming acutely recumbent. Ante‐mortem and post‐mortem next generation sequencing of bursal tissue and post‐mortem conventional PCR ...

Enterococcus thailandicus sp. nov., isolated from fermented sausage ('mum') in Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF SYSTEMATIC AND EVOLUTIONARY MICROBIOLOGY, 2008
A Gram-positive and catalase-negative coccus that formed chains, designated strain FP48-3(T), isolated from fermented sausage ('mum'), was studied systematically. Strain FP48-3(T) was facultatively anaerobic and produced l-lactic acid from glucose. Straight-chain fatty acids C(18 : 1) and C(16 : 0) were the dominant components.

Targeting the microbiota‐miRNA‐protease axis: A new therapeutic avenue in melanoma

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Modulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover is central to melanoma progression and metastasis, driven largely by ECM proteases. This review highlights the epigenetic regulation of ECM proteases by microRNAs and their roles in melanoma growth, invasion, and immune modulation.

Microbiome of Apical Intracanal and Extraradicular Biofilms From the Same Roots of Teeth With Persistent Apical Periodontitis: An Observational Study

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Bacterial biofilms around the apex are crucial in disease progression and persistence of apical periodontitis. While intracanal biofilms initiate infection, extraradicular biofilms contribute to treatment resistance and persistence. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of these biofilms may help elucidate mechanisms underlying persistent ...

p-Cresyl sulfate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
If chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an impairment of kidney function, several uremic solutes are retained. Some of these exert toxic effects, which are called uremic toxins.

Vaginal Microbiota and Ovarian Cancer: A New Frontier in Immunomodulation and Diagnosis

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Microbial imbalance, dysbiosis, plays a role in ovarian carcinogenesis by interacting with the immune system and altering inflammatory pathways, notably Th17 pathways. In contrast, eubiosis, characterised by Lactobacillus dominance, protects against infections and maintains hormone metabolism.
