Early vaccination with Improvac®: effects on performance and behaviour of male pigs

open access: yesAnimal, 2012
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of giving a two-dose regimen of gonadotropin-releasing hormone vaccine, Improvac® (Pfizer Ltd), earlier than currently recommended, on performance and behaviour of growing/finishing pigs.

CA15215 - Innovative approaches in pork production with entire males (IPEMA) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Surgical castration of boars without pain relief is now considered unacceptable. Stakeholders of the pork chain committed themselves to voluntarily end surgical castration of male pigs in Europe by January 1st, 2018.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Influence of social mixing and group size on skin lesions and mounting in organic entire male pigs

open access: yesAnimal, 2016
Alternatives to surgical castration are needed, due to stress and pain caused by castration of male pigs. One alternative is production of entire male pigs.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Age distribution of males and females in whole cohort.

open access: yes, 2022
Histograms showing the distribution of ages for the entire cohort of 481 patients. The frequencies for males (A) and for females (B). These plots show that the sampling was roughly uniform with respect to patient age, a result achieved owing to an ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Morphology of the small intestinal mucosa in chickens of different sexes

open access: yesНауковий вісник Львівського національного університету ветеринарної медицини та біотехнологій імені С.З. Ґжицького: Серія Ветеринарні науки
The structure of the mucous membrane of the small intestine in chickens of different sexes was studied. The Isa-Brown crossbred chickens were divided into two groups: males and females.

Accessory sex glands as a tool to measure the efficacy of immunocastration in male pigs

open access: yesAnimal, 2010
The use of an anti-gonadotropin-releasing hormone vaccine for immunocastration of male pigs has been recently approved in the European Union. This technique is potentially useful for avoiding both castration-associated pain for the animal and boar taint ...

Boar taint and meat quality characteristics of entire male and castrated male pigs

open access: yesAgricultural Science and Technology, 2019
Abstract. The aim of the present research was to study the chemical composition, technological traits and intensity of boar taint of meat in entire male (EM) and surgically castrated male (CM) pigs. The study included 46 male pigs, cross F1 (Landrace x Danube White), fattened to average live weight 90 kg.
