Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

A qPCR Assay for the Threatened Pilbara Olive Python (Liasis olivaceus barroni)
The Pilbara olive python (Liasis olivaceus barroni) is endemic to the Pilbara region of Western Australia and listed as threatened. Despite being a priority conservation target, they are difficult to monitor as their cryptic nature complicates ...

Identification of orb-web spider species and their food source through environmental DNA analysis
Spiders play a vital role in agricultural ecosystems by capturing and preying on small insects, thereby controlling the pests around crops. However, without directly collecting the specimen, it is challenging to accurately determine the species of the ...

Native Plasmid-Encoded Mercury Resistance Genes Are Functional and Demonstrate Natural Transformation in Environmental Bacterial Isolates. [PDF]
Plasmid-mediated horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is a major driver of genetic diversity in bacteria. We experimentally validated the function of a putative mercury resistance operon present on an abundant 8-kbp native plasmid found in groundwater samples ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Evaluation of Extraction Methods for the Recovery of Vertebrate DNA From Spider Webs
Spider webs have recently been recognized as an excellent source of vertebrate eDNA. Here we compare four sample preparation methods and three commercially available DNA extraction kits to optimize vertebrate eDNA recovery. We assessed DNA yield, purity,

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

Modification of a commercial dna extraction kit to simultaneously recover rna, safely and rapidly, and to assess molecular biomass of the total and the active part of microbial communities, from soils with diverse mineralogy and carbon content : S11.04-P -15 [PDF]
We have modified a commercial DNA extraction kit for soil to simultaneously co-extract RNA. In this new procedure RNA and DNA are separated by two selective purifications in cascade without the need of DNAase or RNAse digestion.

Paternal obesity is associated with IGF2 hypomethylation in newborns: results from a Newborn Epigenetics Study (NEST) cohort [PDF]
Data from epidemiological and animal model studies suggest that nutrition during pregnancy may affect the health status of subsequent generations. These transgenerational effects are now being explained by disruptions at the level of the epigenetic ...
