Feature Extracting in the Presence of Environmental Noise, using Subband Adaptive Filtering [PDF]
In this work, a new feature extracting method in noisy environments is proposed. The approach is based on subband decomposition of speech signals followed by adaptive filtering in the noisiest subbbands of speech.

Does functional soil microbial diversity contribute to explain within-site plant beta-diversity in an alpine grassland and a dehesa meadow in Spain? [PDF]
Questions: Once that the effects of hydrological and chemical soil properties have been accounted for, does soil microbial diversity contribute to explain change in plant community structure (i.e. within-site beta-diversity)?

Environmental filtering improves ecological niche models across multiple scales
A clear challenge for ecological niche modelling is determining how to best mitigate the effects of sampling bias from commonly collected biodiversity data.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The large-scale spatial variation in and causes of biotic turnover of soil fauna remain poorly understood. Analyses were conducted based on published data from 14 independent sampling sites across five forest ecosystems in East Asia. Jaccard and Sørensen’

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Community assembly, functional traits, and phylogeny in Himalayan river birds
Heterogeneity in riverine habitats acts as a template for species evolution that influences river communities at different spatio‐temporal scales. Although birds are conspicuous elements of these communities, the roles of phylogeny, functional traits ...

Climate tolerances and trait choices shape continental patterns of urban tree biodiversity [PDF]
Aim: We propose and test a climate tolerance and trait choice hypothesis of urban macroecological variation in which strong filtering associated with low winter temperatures restricts urban biodiversity while weak filtering associated with warmer ...

Improving Speaker Recognition in Environmental Noise With Adaptive Filter
Speaker recognition is challenging in real-world environments. Typically, studies approach noises only in an additive manner. However, real environments commonly present reverberating conditions that worsen speech processing. When not considering reverberation in the system modeling, the system may not be robust when applied to real-world conditions ...
