Inhibitory Effects of Two Polysaccharides from Highland Barley on the Activity of Pancreatic α-Amylase [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue, 2023
In this study, two common cereal polysaccharides, arabinoxylan (HBAX) and β-glucan (HBBG), were prepared from the bran and endosperm of highland barley, respectively.

Study of enzyme inhibitory activities by dipyridamole.

open access: yesChemical & pharmaceutical bulletin, 1990
Inhibitory activities of Dipyridamole (DPM, 2,6-bis(diethanolamino)-4,8-dipiperidinopyrimido(5,4-d)py rim idine) against xanthine oxidase (XO), carbonic anhydorase (CA) and monoamine oxidase (MAO) were studied, in vitro. DPM did not inhibit XO and CA, but it strongly inhibited MAO.

Enzyme Activity of Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor toward Oxidized Catecholamines [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1999
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is a relatively small, 12.5-kDa protein that is structurally related to some isomerases and for which multiple immune and catalytic roles have been proposed. MIF is widely expressed in tissues with particularly high levels in neural tissues.

Assays for Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitory Activity

open access: yesAnalytical Biochemistry, 2001
A colorimetric method and a capillary electrophoresis procedure were developed for quantifying histidyl-leucine and hippurate, respectively. The colorimetric method is sensitive (extinction coefficient = 7.5 mM(-1) cm(-1)) and reproducible (CV = 1.7%, n = 5), which is based on a selective chromogenic reaction for histidyl-leucine (lambda(max) = 390 nm)

Synthesis of New Hydrazone Derivatives for MAO Enzymes Inhibitory Activity [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
In the present work, 14 new 1-substituted-2-phenylhydrazone derivatives were synthesized to evaluate their inhibitory activity against hMAO enzymes. The structures of the newly synthesized hydrazones 2a–2n were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HR-MS spectroscopic methods. The inhibitory activity of compounds 2a–2n against hMAO-A and hMAO-B enzymes

Inhibitory Effects of Cannabinoids on Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase Enzyme Activities

open access: yesMedical Cannabis and Cannabinoids, 2022
Introduction: Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) are two cholinergic enzymes catalyzing the reaction of cleaving acetylcholine into acetate and choline at the neuromuscular junction. Abnormal hyperactivity of AChE and BChE can lead to cholinergic deficiency, which is associated with ...

Allopurinol: Discrimination of antioxidant from enzyme inhibitory activities

open access: yesFree Radical Biology and Medicine, 1996
This study was designed to quantitatively discriminate the specific xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitory from the relatively nonspecific antioxidant activities of allopurinol, both in vitro and in vivo in the rat. XO activity, determined by the spectrophotometric assay for urate generation over time, was completely inhibited in vitro by allopurinol at ...

Structure-based design and synthesis of antiparasitic pyrrolopyrimidines targeting pteridine reductase 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The treatment of Human African Trypanosomiasis remains a major unmet health need in sub-Saharan Africa. Approaches involving new molecular targets are important and pteridine reductase 1 (PTR1), an enzyme that reduces dihydrobiopterin in Trypanosoma spp.

Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme Inhibitory Activity of Coffee Melanoidins

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007
Melanoidins formed at the last stage of the Maillard reaction have been pointed out to possess certain functional properties. Potential antihypertensive activity of food melanoidins (coffee, beer, and sweet-wine) has been evaluated according to in-vitro ACE-inhibitory activity.

Metalloporphyrins inactivate caspase-3 and -8 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Activation of caspases represents one of the earliest biochemical indicators for apoptotic cell death. Therefore, measurement of caspase activity is a widely used and generally accepted method to determine apoptosis in a wide range of in vivo and in ...
