Impact of Menstrual Cycle and Oral Contraceptives on Haematological and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Highly Trained Female Athletes

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
In highly trained female athletes, haematological and inflammatory biomarkers were found to be independent of menstrual cycle phase, but oral contraceptive use increased transferrin, reticulocyte count and triglycerides and decreased interleukin‐6.

Autopsy findings in cases of fatal COVID‐19 vaccine‐induced myocarditis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract COVID‐19 vaccines have been linked to myocarditis, which, in some circumstances, can be fatal. This systematic review aims to investigate potential causal links between COVID‐19 vaccines and death from myocarditis using post‐mortem analysis.

Protocol for autofluorescence-driven isolation of human peripheral blood eosinophils

open access: yesSTAR Protocols
Summary: Most common techniques for isolating eosinophils utilize CD16-negative selection, neglecting the CD16-positive fraction of eosinophils. Here, we present a protocol for isolating human CD16+ and CD16− eosinophils based on their autofluorescence ...

BloodCell-Net: A lightweight convolutional neural network for the classification of all microscopic blood cell images of the human body [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Blood cell classification and counting are vital for the diagnosis of various blood-related diseases, such as anemia, leukemia, and thrombocytopenia. The manual process of blood cell classification and counting is time-consuming, prone to errors, and labor-intensive.

Heart failure decompensation with cardiogenic shock exhibits distinct sequential inflammatory profiles

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims The inflammatory profile of cardiogenic shock (CS) after myocardial infarction affects outcomes; however, little is known about the impact of inflammatory changes in CS caused by acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF‐CS). We measured levels of inflammatory cytokines in patients with ADHF‐CS admitted to a cardiac intensive care unit ...

Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio: link to congestion, inflammation, and mortality in outpatients with heart failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Association of Neutrophil Count, Lymphocyte Count and Neutrophil‐to‐Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with All‐cause Mortality. We enrolled 4702 ambulatory patients referred to a local HF clinic in the UK (The Hull LifeLab), of whom 813 had detailed echocardiographic assessment (top left).
