Synthesizing the role of epigenetics in the response and adaptation of species to climate change in freshwater ecosystems [PDF]
Freshwater ecosystems are amongst the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Currently, climate change is one of the most important drivers of freshwater transformation and its effects include changes in the composition, biodiversity and functioning of ...

Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Direct Cardiac Reprogramming: Progress and Promise. [PDF]
The human adult heart lacks a robust endogenous repair mechanism to fully restore cardiac function after insult; thus, the ability to regenerate and repair the injured myocardium remains a top priority in treating heart failure.

HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Estimating Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) Age Based on an Epigenetic DNA Methylation Clock
Knowledge of animal age is essential to wildlife managers for obtaining meaningful and accurate insights into demographic parameters. A common approach to aging wildlife, including bears (Ursus spp.), has been extracting a tooth during physical capture ...

Functional Implications of DNA Methylation in Adipose Biology. [PDF]
The twin epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are a serious health, social, and economic issue. The dysregulation of adipose tissue biology is central to the development of these two metabolic disorders, as adipose tissue plays a pivotal role ...

The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Pontin arginine methylation by CARM1 is crucial for epigenetic regulation of autophagy
Epigenetic regulations of autophagy have emerged as mechanisms for maintaining cellular homeostasis. Here the authors reveal that the CARM1-Pontin-FOXO3a signaling axis can activate autophagy related genes through enhancer activation.
