Differentiation of endogenous erythropoietin and exogenous ESAs by Western blotting

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
Doping tests for the illegal use of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) have been developed. We developed a new Western blotting method to detect and distinguish endogenous erythropoietin (Epo, 35-38 kDa) and exogenous ESAs (epoetin α and β, 38-42 ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Miniaturized Bidirectional Thermal Stimulation System Integrated With an Electrode Array for Recording Neural Activities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a miniaturized bidirectional thermal stimulation system integrated with an electrode array enabling real‐time, bidirectional modulation and simultaneous recording of neural activity through localized heating and cooling. By monolithic integration of the Peltier element and with a silicon neural probe, the innovative system allows ...

Single‐Cell RNA Editing Identifies T Cell ADAR1 as a Key Regulator of Immune Exhaustion and Anti‐PD‐1 Resistance in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA editing analysis identifies ADAR1 as a regulator of dysfunctional T cell states in colorectal cancer. Elevated ADAR1 activity promotes T cell exhaustion and impairs antitumor immunity partly through TGF‐β‐SMAD signaling, contributing to anti‐PD‐1 resistance and highlighting T cell ADAR1 as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker ...

Natural form of noncytolytic flexible human Fc as a long-acting carrier of agonistic ligand, erythropoietin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Human IgG1 Fc has been widely used as a bioconjugate, but exhibits shortcomings, such as antibody- and complement-mediated cytotoxicity as well as decreased bioactivity, when applied to agonistic proteins.

Ultrasonic Rainbow: A Meta‐Transducer for Frequency‐Selective Elastic Wave Control via Dithering‐Based Wavenumber Tuning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A piezoelectric meta‐transducer generates an ultrasonic rainbow, steering guided elastic waves to different angles according to frequency. A dithering‐based binary electrode design enables a closer realization of the target wavenumber filter, improving directional purity and suppressing unwanted lobes. Numerical and experimental validation demonstrates

The role of venture‐financed startups in innovation for US agriculture

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract To evaluate the role played by startup companies in the innovation ecosystem of US agriculture, we compile a unique dataset of 6024 new entrants founded 1987–2019 that details their financing lifecycles, annual economic performance, and patenting activities.

Hematologic safety of chronic brain‐penetrating erythropoietin dosing in APP/PS1 mice

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions, 2019
Introduction Low blood‐brain barrier (BBB) penetration and hematopoietic side effects limit the therapeutic development of erythropoietin (EPO) for Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Clinically Relevant Bleeding in Individuals With Cancer: Insights From a Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cancer care is often complicated by coagulopathy leading to thrombosis and bleeding. While venous thromboembolism (VTE) has been extensively studied, bleeding remains an underestimated threat. To address this knowledge gap, we leveraged the Epic Cosmos database to determine the impact of cancer‐associated clinically relevant bleeding (CRB) in ...
