Principle of equivalence

American Journal of Physics, 1977
The principle of equivalence is discussed in its modern form based oin the theory of general relativity. This is compared to the original formulation of the princple in 1911.

The Equivalence Principle

2011
In this section we discuss the principle of equivalence. We shall see that, besides allowing the extension of the principle of relativity to a generic, not necessarily inertial, frame of reference, it allows to define gravity, in a relativistic framework, as a property of the four-dimensional space-time geometry.

The principle of equivalence

2009
Abstract After a review of the Newtonian theory of gravitation in terms of its potential function, we start the study of general relativity (GR) with the introduction of the equivalence principle (EP). The Weak EP (the equality of the gravitational and inertial masses) is extended by Einstein to the Strong EP, the equivalence between ...

The principle of equivalence

Annals of Physics, 1963
Abstract Various statements identified with the principle of equivalence are not acceptable because they are either not generally valid or are simply the definition of an inertial coordinate system. The accepted statement refers, roughly speaking, to the equivalence of inertial mass with passive and active gravitational mass.

The Principle of Equivalence

1984
As we have already mentioned in the introduction, the principle of equivalence is one of the foundation pillars of the general theory of relativity. It leads naturally to the kinematical framework of general relativity and determines to a large extent the coupling of physical systems to external gravitational fields. This will be discussed in detail in

The Principle of Equivalence

1991
A general principle of obtaining equivalence of core and quasiWalrasian allocations in nonatomic markets with an infinite number of commodities is formulated through four ingredients: the set of arbitrage, the coalitional representation, the space of allocations and the (weak) Lyapunov Convexity Theorem.

The Principle of Equivalence

1976
We now turn to the consequences of dynamic relativity, which go beyond the epistemological relativity. For this purpose we must analyze Einstein’s theory of gravitation, since Einstein adopted Mach’s idea of dynamic relativity and developed it further.
