Abstract During exercise, females have a higher work of breathing (ẆB) than males for a given minute ventilation (V̇E$ \dot {V}_{\text {E}}$) ≥ 50–60 L min−1, presumably due to sex differences in airway size. However, on average, males have greater forced vital capacity (FVC) than females, and the confounding effect of FVC on sex differences in ẆB is ...

Abstract Glycogen storage disease III (GSD‐III) is caused by an inherited deficiency of the glycogen debranching enzyme. Affecting the liver, muscle and heart, GSD‐IIIa is the most common GSD‐III subtype. We evaluated the feasibility and safety of a physical exercise intervention in patients with GSD‐IIIa and its effects at the multisystem level.

Abstract figure legend Sprint interval training (SIT) is a popular time‐efficient type of endurance training. Healthy young men performed nine SIT sessions (4–6 × 30 s all‐out cycling sprints) over 3 weeks while being supplemented with antioxidants (high doses of vitamins C and E) or placebo. Muscle biopsies taken before and after the first SIT session

5-HT receptors: Pharmacology and functional selectivity [PDF]
Serotonin 5-HT receptors were one of the first serotonin receptors to be pharmacologically characterized. In mammals, they are expressed throughout the body in nearly every cell and tissue type, with the highest density in cortical layer V of the brain ...

ABSTRACT In the 1950s–60s, serotonergic psychedelic drugs were studied as potential adjuvants to psychotherapy to treat addiction and alcoholism. However, starting in the 70s, preclinical and clinical studies on psychedelics stopped for decades because legislation controlled its recreational use, citing their hallucinogenic and psychotomimetic effects,

Solid substrate mediated changes in ergot alkaloid spectra in solid state fermentation system [PDF]
Use of different solid substrates resulted in minor alterations in total alkaloid production by #Claviceps purpurea$ 1029c in solid state fermentation system but the changes in the spectra of ergot alkaloids were of significantly higher magnitudes ...

N-Benzyl-5-methoxytryptamines as Potent Serotonin 5-HT2 Receptor Family Agonists and Comparison with a Series of Phenethylarnine Analogues [PDF]
A series of N-benzylated-5-methoxytryptamine analogues was prepared and investigated, with special emphasis on substituents in the meta position of the benzyl group.

Structural Features for Functional Selectivity at Serotonin Receptors [PDF]
Drugs active at G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) can differentially modulate either canonical or non-canonical signaling pathways via a phenomenon known as functional selectivity or biased signaling.
