Effect of moderate altitude and nocturnal oxygen therapy on cerebrovascular function in patients with COPD: A randomized, crossover trial at 2048 m

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We investigated whether nocturnal oxygen therapy improves next‐day cerebrovascular function in lowlanders with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) staying at moderate altitude. This randomized, placebo‐controlled single‐blind crossover trial was performed in moderate‐to‐severe COPD patients [forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1 ...

Antioxidant supplementation blunts the proteome response to 3 weeks of sprint interval training preferentially in human type 2 muscle fibres

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Sprint interval training (SIT) is a popular time‐efficient type of endurance training. Healthy young men performed nine SIT sessions (4–6 × 30 s all‐out cycling sprints) over 3 weeks while being supplemented with antioxidants (high doses of vitamins C and E) or placebo. Muscle biopsies taken before and after the first SIT session

Solid substrate mediated changes in ergot alkaloid spectra in solid state fermentation system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Use of different solid substrates resulted in minor alterations in total alkaloid production by #Claviceps purpurea$ 1029c in solid state fermentation system but the changes in the spectra of ergot alkaloids were of significantly higher magnitudes ...

Crystallographic and NMR Investigation of Ergometrine and Methylergometrine, Two Alkaloids from Claviceps purpurea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Ergometrine and methylergometrine are two alkaloids that are used as maleate salts for the prevention and control of postpartum hemorrhage. Although the two molecules have been known for a long time, few and discordant crystallographic and NMR ...

Associations of Physical Activity and Dietary Fat Quality With Arterial Health in Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Obesity, Volume 20, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Background While the clinical signs of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are not usually visible until adulthood, the CVD pathology begins already in childhood. Objectives To study the associations of physical activity (PA) and dietary fat quality with arterial health among adolescents.

Intoxicação experimental por Ipomoea carnea subsp. fistulosa em caprinos da Argentina: correlação clínico-patológica, com especial atenção ao sistema nervoso central [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ipomoea carnea subsp. fistulosa, aguapei or mandiyura, is responsible for lysosomal storage in goats. The shrub contains several alkaloids, mainly swansonine which inhibits lysosomal α-mannosidase and Golgi mannosidase II.

Setting sail for Paris 2024: Retrospective analysis of world‐class ILCA 7 Olympic sailors’ cardiorespiratory fitness (2015–2020)

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 11, Page 1576-1583, November 1, 2025.
Abstract The aim of this retrospective analysis was to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the cardiorespiratory profile of world‐class ILCA‐7 sailors (n = 3, all males), through a longitudinal evaluation offering real‐world data on physiological profile and exercise intensity domains. The cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) was performed

Pattern of extra‐diaphragmatic respiratory muscle activity during exercise in patients with unilateral diaphragm dysfunction

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 13, Issue 21, November 2025.
Abstract Whether extra‐diaphragmatic respiratory muscle output is altered in patients with unilateral diaphragm dysfunction (UDD) remains unclear. We compared respiratory pressures and muscle activity during symptom‐limited cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in 10 patients with UDD and 10 matched controls.

Physical Activity and BrainAGE: Exploring the Impact on Brain Health and Plasticity in Older Adults

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 46, Issue 15, October 15, 2025.
An eight‐week multi‐component physical activity intervention reduced brain age (BrainAGE) in older adults. The effect was strongest in participants with lower baseline fitness, supported by structural brain changes in motivation‐related regions. Findings support BrainAGE as a sensitive biomarker of intervention effects on brain health. ABSTRACT With an
