Did the French pregnancy pictogram change antiseizure medication use during pregnancy?

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to assess the impact of introducing a pregnancy pictogram on medication packaging on the prescription and dispensation of antiseizure medications and on the maternal and neonatal outcomes for women exposed to these medications.

Introduction to the Toxins Special Issue on Ergot Alkaloids

open access: yesToxins, 2015
Ergot alkaloids are among the most relevant natural products in the history of toxins and pharmaceuticals. Until the late 20th century, human and livestock exposure to ergot alkaloids was primarily through ingestion of “ergots,” which are spur-shaped or ...

Climate change effects on biomass and greenhouse gas emissions are ameliorated by nontoxic endophytes in southeastern USA transition zone tall fescue pastures

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Tall fescue produces more biomass and less carbon dioxide from the soil when it contains its beneficial fungal endophyte. Increased temperatures projected with climate change reduce fescue biomass, while altered rainfall frequency does not. Altering rainfall frequency and increasing temperatures can reduce carbon dioxide emissions from soil.

Occurrence of Ergot Alkaloids in Barley and Wheat from Algeria

open access: yesToxins, 2021
The natural occurrence of six major ergot alkaloids, ergometrine, ergosine, ergotamine, ergocornine, ergokryptine and ergocristine, as well as their corresponding epimers, were investigated in 60 cereal samples (barley and wheat) from Algeria. Ultra-high

Development and adoption of Kernza—A perennial grain crop for sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Annual cereal grains account for ~50% of human food calories, but cultivation of these crops has resulted in major environmental and social issues worldwide. For nearly three decades, researchers have been breeding intermediate wheatgrass—a perennial cool‐season grass—to serve as the world's first commercial‐scale perennial grain crop to improve ...

The New Ergot Alkaloid [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1936
DURING the first half of the year 1935 communications appeared from four different laboratories, in three different countries, each describing the discovery and isolation of a new alkaloid from ergot, very different in its properties from those previously known.

Psychedelics, entactogens and psychoplastogens for depression and related disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Currently, the most actively investigated rapidly acting antidepressants, anxiolytics and/or anti PTSD agents, include psychedelics e.g. psilocybin, LSD, N,N‐dimethyltryptamine, ayahuasca; non‐hallucinogenic entactogens, e.g. MDMA; psychoplastogens which rapidly promote neuroplasticity, e.g.

ACTH suppression and adverse effects of cabergoline in horses with pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Background The diagnosis and management of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) in horses includes evaluating abnormal plasma concentrations of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH). Treatment commonly includes the oral dopamine agonist pergolide mesylate, which suppresses the pathologic overproduction of ACTH.

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

Different pathogenicity of ergot isolates (Claviceps purpurea [Fr.] Tul.) on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.)

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2002
Ergot, caused by the fungus Claviceps purpurea (Fr.) Tul., belongs to the main constraints in seed production of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.).
