Generalized weights and bounds for error probability over erasure channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
New upper and lower bounds for the error probability over an erasure channel are provided, making use of Wei's generalized weights, hierarchy and spectra.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Error Bounds for Lagrange Interpolation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 1995
Consider an interpolation of functions \(f\in W_ \infty^ m [a,b]\) by Lagrange polynomials \(\ell_{m-1}\), \(\Delta(f)\) of degree \(m-1\) at the mesh \(\Delta\) of the interpolating nodes \(\{t_ j\}^ m_ 1\). Error bounds due to this approximation is evaluated as \[ L_{m,k} (\Delta)= \sup_{x\in [a,b]} L_{m,k} (\Delta,x)= {\textstyle {1\over m ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Error Bounds for Fractional Integral Inequalities with Applications

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
Fractional calculus has been a concept used to obtain new variants of some well-known integral inequalities. In this study, our main goal is to establish the new fractional Hermite–Hadamard, and Simpson’s type estimates by employing a differentiable ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Optimal Error Estimates for the hp–Version Interior Penalty Discontinuous Galerkin Finite Element Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We consider the hp-version interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin finite element method (hp-DGFEM) for second-order linear reaction-diffusion equations.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A Computational Method for Subdivision Depth of Ternary Schemes

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
Subdivision schemes are extensively used in scientific and practical applications to produce continuous shapes in an iterative way. This paper introduces a framework to compute subdivision depths of ternary schemes.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...
