Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

A Tutorial on the Expectation-Maximization Algorithm Including Maximum-Likelihood Estimation and EM Training of Probabilistic Context-Free Grammars

open access: yes, 2004
The paper gives a brief review of the expectation-maximization algorithm (Dempster 1977) in the comprehensible framework of discrete mathematics. In Section 2, two prominent estimation methods, the relative-frequency estimation and the maximum-likelihood

Segmentation-Based Depth Correction Methods for Near Field iToF LiDAR in Motion State

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Vehicular Technology
This paper presents two approaches to enhance depth correction of the indirect time-of-flight (iToF) LiDAR sensors during a motion state, addressing the challenges of depth ambiguity and motion blur noise.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Center-of-gravity velocity estimation using lower limb muscle forces during walking

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering
This study proposes a gait model that describes the relation between the lower limb muscle forces and the center-of-gravity (CoG) velocity in the forward, vertical, and lateral directions.

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Statistical Advancement of a Flexible Unitary Distribution and Its Applications

open access: yesAxioms
A flexible distribution has been introduced to handle random variables in the unit interval. This distribution is based on an exponential transformation of the truncated positive normal distribution with two parameters and can effectively fit data with ...

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Uniformly Shifted Exponential Distribution

open access: yesAxioms
The use of life distributions has increased over the past decade, receiving particular attention in recent years, both from a practical and theoretical point of view. Life distributions can be used in a number of applied fields, such as medicine, biology,
