Neuroprotective actions of estradiol revisited [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2011
Results from animal experiments showing that estradiol is neuroprotective were challenged 10 years ago by findings indicating an increased risk of dementia and stroke in women over 65 years of age taking conjugated equine estrogens. Our understanding of the complex signaling of estradiol in neural cells has recently clarified the causes of this ...

LRRC4 Deficiency Drives Premature Ovarian Insufficiency by Disrupting Metabolic Homeostasis in Granulosa Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LRRC4 deficiency disrupts the metabolic homeostasis of mitochondrial aerobic respiration and glycolysis during GC differentiation by inhibiting the ubiquitination‐mediated degradation of YAP, which ultimately leads to POI. These findings reveal the novel molecular etiology of POI and provide a promising target for prevention and treatment.

Porphyromonas somerae Invasion of Endometrial Cancer Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Recent evidence suggests an association between endometrial cancer and the understudied bacterial species Porphyromonas somerae. This association was demonstrated in previous work that indicated a significantly enriched abundance of P.

Influence of 17 beta-estradiol, progesterone, and dexamethasone on diapedesis and viability of bovine blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The aim of the current study was to investigate whether polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) diapedesis and viability are influenced by steroid hormones.

Differential effects of steroids and retinoids on bovine myelopoiesis in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Pregnancy and parturition are associated with physiological changes caused by steroid hormones. Alterations in number, maturity, and function of polymorphonuclear leukocytes observed in dairy cows at parturition suggest a common causative relationship ...

Estradiol-regulated microRNAs control estradiol response in breast cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2009
Estradiol (E2) regulates gene expression at the transcriptional level by functioning as a ligand for estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha) and estrogen receptor beta (ERbeta). E2-inducible proteins c-Myc and E2Fs are required for optimal ERalpha activity and secondary estrogen responses, respectively.

Placental RTN3L‐dependent ER‐Phagy Contributes to Fetal Testicular Dysplasia Upon Environmental Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gestational environmental stress activates ER‐phagy by increasing placental Rtn3l mRNA N6‐methyladenosine modification, further inhibiting placental estradiol synthesis and contributing to fetal testicular dysplasia. This study demonstrates the early prevention and treatment of adult male infertility from the perspective of fetal‐derived diseases ...

Structural features of alkylphenolic chemicals associated with estrogenic activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The ability of certain man-made chemicals to mimic the effects of natural steroid hormones and their potential to disrupt the delicate balance of the endocrine system in animals are of increasing concern.

β-Estradiol and ethinyl-estradiol contamination in the rivers of the Carpathian Basin [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Pollution Research, 2016
17β-Estradiol (E2) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol (EE2), which are environmental estrogens, have been determined with LC-MS in freshwater. Their sensitive analysis needs derivatization and therefore is very hard to achieve in multiresidue screening. We analyzed samples from all the large and some small rivers (River Danube, Drava, Mur, Sava, Tisza, and Zala)

Testosterone Delays Bone Microstructural Destruction via Osteoblast‐Androgen Receptor‐Mediated Upregulation of Tenascin‐C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Testosterone–Androgen Receptor signaling delays elderly male bone destruction by upregulation of the osteoblastic extracellular tenascin‐C (TNC). The osteoprotective effect of fibrinogen C‐terminus of TNC is demonstrated in male osteoporotic mice model that osteoblast‐specific Ar‐knockout, potentially via inhibition of ...
