Effects of Progesterone and Its Antagonist Mifepristone on Progesterone Receptor A Expression in Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Effects of female steroid hormones on endothelial cells are gaining increased importance due to several studies on the effects of hormonal treatment on cardiovascular risk.

YAP1‐Driven Pathogenic Fibro‐Adipogenic Progenitors Secrete IL‐6 and FGF21 to Mediate Muscle‐Bone Crosstalk and Promote Bone Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fibro‐adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) in atrophic muscle undergo YAP1‐driven pathogenic activation, secreting IL‐6 and FGF21 as bone‐catabolic myokines that mediate muscle‐bone crosstalk and promote bone loss. Genetic or pharmacological targeting of this YAP1‐FAP‐myokine axis rescues skeletal deterioration, identifying FAP‐derived myokines as therapeutic

I. Estrogen receptor-mediated inhibition of inflammatory signaling: Implications for treatment of breast cancer II. Small molecule coactivator-binding inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Approximately two-thirds of breast cancers result from overexpression of the estrogen receptor, a ligand-dependent transcription factor. Traditional therapy employs drugs that bind directly to the receptor but do not mediate transcription.

GnRH receptor activation competes at a low level with growth signaling in stably transfected human breast cell lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Breakthrough Breast CancerBackground: Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogs lower estrogen levels in pre-menopausal breast cancer patients. GnRH receptor (GnRH-R) activation also directly inhibits the growth of certain cells.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in the development of adenomyosis

open access: yesGynecology and Minimally Invasive Therapy, 2015
Adenomyosis is a hormone-related disease that affects 10–66% of women, and women with this disorder suffer from menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and/or infertility.

Intratumoral Hypoxia Triggers Mitochondrial BHLHE40 ROS Sensing Pathway to Promote Radioresistance in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hypoxia triggers a dual mechanism for BHLHE40 upregulation: reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐dependent post‐translational modification and hypoxia‐inducible factor (HIF)‐dependent transcriptional activation. Under hypoxic conditions, mitochondrial BHLHE40 accumulates and senses ROS via cysteine thiol oxidation and disulfide‐linked homodimer formation ...

3D models of MBP, a biologically active metabolite of bisphenol A, in human estrogen receptor α and estrogen receptor β.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Bisphenol A [BPA] is a widely dispersed environmental chemical that is of much concern because the BPA monomer is a weak transcriptional activator of human estrogen receptor α [ERα] and ERβ in cell culture.

Tumor‐Derived Exosomal circAP2B1 Induces M2 Macrophage Polarization by Enhancing Mitochondrial Homeostasis to Promote Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ESCC‐derived exosomal circAP2B1 promotes tumor progression by reprogramming mitochondrial metabolism via the ESRRA/KPNA1/MFN2 axis to induce M2 polarization of macrophages. ABSTRACT Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remodels the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment via exosome‐mediated intercellular communication.

Estrogen Promotes Pro-resolving Microglial Behavior and Phagocytic Cell Clearance Through the Actions of Annexin A1

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Local production of estrogen rapidly follows brain tissue injury, but the role this hormone plays in regulating the response to neural damage or in the modulation of mediators regulating inflammation is in many ways unclear.

Transcription Factor HOXC11 Drives Colorectal Cancer Progression and Metastasis via CAMK2A‐Dependent CXCL5 Upregulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
HOXC11 drives colorectal cancer progression by transcriptionally activating CAMK2A, which triggers NF‐κB–dependent CXCL5 upregulation. CXCL5–CXCR2 signaling further reinforces HOXC11 expression through the ERK1/2–SP1 axis, forming a prometastatic positive feedback loop that is effectively disrupted by combined CAMK2A and CXCR2 inhibition.
