Cross‐Linking Mass Spectrometry of the Antimicrobial Peptides Magainin 2 and PGLa Reveals Heterodimerization in Micellar Medium

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale In this study, we applied cross‐linking mass spectrometry (XL‐MS) to characterize the oligomeric states of a PGLa/magainin 2 mixture and gain insight into the heterodimerization previously suggested in the literature. Both peptides have shown a synergistic enhancement of activity when tested in antimicrobial assays; however, the ...

Human gut microbiota and their production of endocannabinoid-like mediators are directly affected by a dietary oil

open access: yesGut Microbes
Dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) and the gut microbiome affect each other. We investigated the impact of supplementation with Buglossoides arvensis oil (BO), rich in stearidonic acid (SDA), on the human gut microbiome.

Ultrasensitive MicroRNA Detection Combining Reduced Graphene Oxide Electrolyte‐Gated Transistors and Machine Learning

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
We developed an ultrasensitive and highly selective biosensor by integrating bio‐functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO) electrolyte‐gated transistors (EGTs) and machine learning (ML) to detect miRNAs (miR‐34a, miR‐34b, and miR‐34c) associated with cancer and neurological disorders.

Effects of tumour necrosis factor α upon the metabolism of the endocannabinoid anandamide in prostate cancer cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Tumour necrosis factor α (TNFα) is involved in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, a disease where disturbances in the endocannabinoid system are seen.

Oxidation of ethanolamines by sodium N-bromobenzenesulfonamide in alkaline buffer medium: A kinetic and mechanistic study

open access: yes, 2001
The kinetics of oxidation of ethanolamines, monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), and triethanolamine (TEA), by sodium N-bromobenzenesulfonamide or bromamine-B (BAB) in alkaline buffer medium (pH 8.7-12.2) has been studied at 40°C.

Positive Aging‐Free Quantum Dot Light‐Emitting Diodes Enabled by Single‐Source Chloride‐Doped ZnMgO Electron Transport Layers

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Single‐source chloride doping of ZnMgO electron‐transport layers (ETLs) intrinsically suppresses oxygen‐vacancy traps, eliminating storage‐driven positive aging in quantum dot light‐emitting diodes. Devices deliver day‐0 peak external quantum efficiency and longer operational lifetimes, while transport and interfacial photoluminescence remain time ...

Structure of the Arabidopsis receptor kinase SRF6 ectodomain determined from crystals obtained using the LRR crystallization screen

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section D, EarlyView.
A crystallization screen that has enabled the structural analysis of various extracellular domains of plant membrane receptor kinases is described together with the structure of the LRR domain of the receptor SRF6.Plant‐specific membrane receptor kinases with structurally diverse extracellular domains regulate key processes in plant growth, development,

Microarrayed Allergen Molecules Distinguish IgE Sensitisation to Blomia tropicalis and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study established a microarray containing a representative panel of purified Blo t and Der p allergens for the identification of patients sensitised to Blo t and/or Der p. Results indicate that the microarray based on Blo t and Der p allergens is a useful tool for the identification of Blo t‐ and/or Der p‐sensitised patients. The microarray may be

Improved prediction of symptomatic type 1 diabetes using a luciferase‐based assay to measure (pro)insulin autoantibodies

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Insulin autoantibodies (IAA) are key predictors of type 1 diabetes, particularly in young children. Micro‐radiobinding assays (RBA) are the gold standard for IAA measurement but have limitations. We assessed whether a luciferase immunoprecipitation system (LIPS) assay improved diabetes risk assessment.

Steroidogenic compensation and lipid deficiency with enhanced NAD+ salvage in small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.
