Performance evaluation of the EtherCAT distributed clock algorithm

2010 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2010
EtherCAT is a real-time Ethernet protocol conceived for industrial environments, which is characterised by high communication efficiency. It is provided with a suitable mechanism, known as distributed clock, that enables synchronised operations to be carried out with precise timings.

EtherCAT based Multi-model robot controller

2011 8th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2011
In this paper, we propose an EtherCAT based Multi-model robot controller. The controller engages EtherCAT as high speed industrial motion network to enable both force based robot motion control in real-time and digital interface of various sensor data for multi-model robot control.

A simulation approach to a Real-Time Ethernet protocol: EtherCAT

2008 IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2008
In the last years the use of Ethernet as the communication technology for automation systems has been sensibly increasing. In particular, real-time Ethernet networks have become widely adopted. In this paper we consider one of the most popular Real-Time Ethernet networks, namely EtherCAT. We firstly provide a short outline of the protocol, along with a

Real-time Ethernet: the EtherCAT solution

Computing and Control Engineering, 2004
The use of Ethernet as a physical communication layer for automation technology is increasing worldwide. Ethernet is already established at the command level for factory networking and inter-control communication. Ethernet at the field level has its problems. It is not optimized to send short, frequent messages.

Clock Synchronization in Integrated TSN-EtherCAT Networks

2020 25th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2020
Moving towards new technologies, such as Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), in industries should be gradual with a proper integration process instead of replacing the existing ones to make it beneficial in terms of cost and performance. Within this context, this paper identifies the challenges of integrating a legacy EtherCAT network, as a commonly used ...

A Standalone Gray-Box EtherCAT Fuzzer

2018 2nd International Symposium on Multidisciplinary Studies and Innovative Technologies (ISMSIT), 2018
SCADA systems have been introduced in 1960s. In 1990s, it is widely accepted because of its architecture, topology, effortless network infrastructure construction and real-time support. Nowadays, modern SCADA systems providing open distributed architecture, redundancy, industry standards, distributed functions and TCP/IP communication are used as de ...

Synchronization in a force measurement system using EtherCAT

2008 IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2008
This paper addresses synchronization between master and slaves in a force measurement system using EtherCAT. One property of the system is that the operation of the measurement controller is strictly bound to the operation of the measurement nodes and not vice verse.

A high-performance CAN-like arbitration scheme for EtherCAT

2009 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation, 2009
EtherCAT is a popular Ethernet-based solution conceived for connecting devices at the shop floor in industrial environments. Even though it features very high communication efficiency, that permits thousands of I/O points to be periodically exchanged between controlling devices and decentralized periphery with cycle times well below 1 ms, it is not ...
