Real-time Ethernet: the EtherCAT solution

Computing and Control Engineering, 2004
The use of Ethernet as a physical communication layer for automation technology is increasing worldwide. Ethernet is already established at the command level for factory networking and inter-control communication. Ethernet at the field level has its problems. It is not optimized to send short, frequent messages.

EtherCAT-based functional safety-integrated communication

International Conference on Automatic Control and Artificial Intelligence (ACAI 2012), 2012
The integration of Functional safety has been more and more important in the industry automation, especially for servo drives. So the communication protocol for the control system should support Functional safety. EtherCAT is a real time industrial Ethernet protocol with high performance, which also specifies Functional safety profile.

A Standalone Gray-Box EtherCAT Fuzzer

2018 2nd International Symposium on Multidisciplinary Studies and Innovative Technologies (ISMSIT), 2018
SCADA systems have been introduced in 1960s. In 1990s, it is widely accepted because of its architecture, topology, effortless network infrastructure construction and real-time support. Nowadays, modern SCADA systems providing open distributed architecture, redundancy, industry standards, distributed functions and TCP/IP communication are used as de ...

Improving EtherCAT master-slave synchronization precision using PTCP embedded in EtherCAT frames: A proof-of-concept

2015 IEEE World Conference on Factory Communication Systems (WFCS), 2015
Designed for efficient real time traffic at low cycle times, EtherCAT is known to display several inefficiencies which include high quality master-slave synchronization. In this paper we examine a prototype circuit that allows us to achieve high quality time synchronization between master and slave device using PTCP embedded in EtherCAT frames.
