EtherCAT Technology with Design of EtherCAT Slave Station
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014Nowadays, EtherCAT technology is widely used in motion control and industrial automation fields. It has good performance on transmission speed and synchronization between several slave stations. In this paper, an EtherCAT slave station design method based on STM32 MCU and ET1100 chip is carried out from the view of hardware and software.

Evaluation of EtherCAT Distributed Clock Performance
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, 2012EtherCAT is a real-time Ethernet protocol conceived explicitly for industrial applications. It is characterized by high communication efficiency, which permits control loops to be closed with short cycle times, and is provided with a suitable mechanism, known as distributed clock (DC), that enables synchronized operations to take place across the ...

A distribute-merge switch for EtherCAT networks
2010 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems Proceedings, 2010EtherCAT is a popular industrial Ethernet solution conceived mainly for connecting control applications to remote I/Os. Because of its high communication efficiency - that achieves cycle times well below 1ms-it can be profitably adopted for motion control systems as well, which are known to have tight timing constraints.

Topology aspects in EtherCAT networks
Proceedings of 14th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference EPE-PEMC 2010, 2010Fieldbus networks based on Ethernet become an inevitable part of factory automation systems. The number of installed nodes has increased over the last few years. Therefore, efficient network planning sets new challenges for today's engineers. This paper shows major aspects of topology planning in industrial networks based on EtherCAT protocol.

Dynamic drift compensation for the Distributed clock in EtherCAT
2009 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2009This paper focuses on the synchronization between master clock and slave clock in the Distributed clock of EtherCAT. It supports very accurate synchronization function which let local slaves follow reference time under the degree of few nano second differences. However, there exists the propagation delay between reference clock and slave clock.

A software tool for efficient configuration of EtherCAT networks
Proceedings of 2012 IEEE 17th International Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (ETFA 2012), 2012The configuration of industrial networks is a very challenging task, especially when complex network structures with a large number of devices and stringent real-time constraints are used. This paper presents a software tool for efficient configuration of EtherCAT networks. The software tool has been tested for different scenarios on real network setup
