Catechins and Their Effect on the Gut Microbiome in Health and Cancer
ABSTRACT Catechins are a group of flavonoids found primarily in green tea, fruits, and berries; they play a significant role in the modulation of the gut microbiota, thereby having an impact on gut health and cancer prevention. Owing to their low bioavailability, catechins are transformed by the gut microbiota into various bioactive metabolites such as

Ethyl Glucuronide Positivity Rate in a Pain Management Population [PDF]
Ethanol may be consumed by some patients as a means to manage their pain or psychiatric disorder. Consequently, there is the potential to consider ethanol a co-therapeutic in pain management. The purpose of this study was to perform a retrospective analysis to evaluate the rate of ethanol use in a population of patients in pain management programs that

Sensitivity and Specificity of Urinary Ethyl Glucuronide and Ethyl Sulfate in Liver Disease Patients [PDF]
BackgroundIt is important to monitor alcohol use in the care of patients with liver disease, but patient self‐report can be unreliable. We therefore evaluated the performance of urine ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) in detecting alcohol use in the days preceding a clinical encounter.MethodsSubjects (n = 120) were recruited at a ...

Comparison of Urinary Excretion Characteristics of Ethanol and Ethyl Glucuronide [PDF]
This study compared the urinary excretion characteristics of ethyl glucuronide (EtG) with that of ethanol, with focus on the effect of water-induced diuresis. Six healthy volunteers ingested an ethanol dose of 0.5 g/kg (range 25.0-41.5 g) as 5% (v/v) beer in 30 min and the same volume of water after 3 h.
