Restriction fragment length polymorphisms in theETS-1 proto-oncogene Comparison of Saudi and Western populations

We have cloned part of the ETS 1 proto-oncogene and demonstrated the presence of two polymorphic Sst I restriction sites. A probe derived from one of our clones revealed the presence of 8.3 kb, 9.5 kb and/or 11.5 kb fragments on Southern blots of human DNA samples.

The proto-oncogene ets-1 is a transcription factor known to control the expression of a number of genes involved in extracellular matrix remodeling. To elucidate the involvement of ets-1 in human thyroid carcinoma, we examined 68 cases of thyroid carcinoma and 38 cases of benign tumors by immunohistochemical means.

Ets-1 and Ets-2 proto-oncogenes exhibit differential and restricted expression patterns during Xenopus laevis oogenesis and embryogenesis

Xenopus XI-ets-1 and XI-ets-2 are maternally expressed. From late oogenesis to early embryogenesis their transcripts are localized to the animal pole and the intermediate zone, suggesting a function in the differentiation of animal blastomeres and future mesoderm.

Differential expression of ets-1 and ets-2 proto-oncogenes during murine embryogenesis.

ets-1 and ets-2 genes have previously been identified by their sequence homology to the v-ets oncogene of the avian erythroblastosis virus, E26. These cellular genes have been shown to function as transcription factors important in lymphoid differentiation and activation and cellular proliferation.

Structure, expression and alternative splicing of the human c-ets-1 proto-oncogene.

The avian acute leukemia virus E26 induces a mixed erythroid-myeloid leukemia in chicken and carries two distinct oncogenes, v-myb and v-ets. It was shown that there exist two ets loci in humans, c-ets-1 and c-ets-2, which were mapped to human chromosome 11 and 21, respectively.

The c-ets-1 proto-oncogene has oncogenic activity and is positively autoregulated.

The proto-oncogene ets-1 is a member of the ets family of genes that share homology with the viral oncogene, v-ets, of the avian leukemia virus E26. By using expression vectors, we demonstrate that the ets-1 gene transforms NIH3T3 cells and the ets-1 transfected cells form colonies in soft agar and induce tumors in nude mice.
