A novel PBP3 substitution in Haemophilus influenzae confers reduced aminopenicillin susceptibility

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2018
Background Identification and characterization of non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) with reduced susceptibility to β-lactam antibiotics due to mutations in penicillin binding protein 3 (PBP3) is a clinical challenge. We analyzed a blood isolate,

Advanced Fungal Control With Metallic Nanoparticles: A Comprehensive Review of Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA) for Particle Concentration Characterization

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 12, 26 March 2026.
Metallic nanoparticles are emerging as potent antifungal agents, yet their efficacy is rarely quantified on a particle basis. Here, we demonstrate how nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), together with a newly proposed Particle Efficiency Index (PEI), can relate nanoparticle concentration to fungal inoculum load, enabling more rigorous and comparable ...

Development and Validation of an HPLC–UV Method for the Quantification of Cefepime in Human Plasma for Routine Clinical Monitoring

open access: yesSEPARATION SCIENCE PLUS, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Cefepime, a broad‐spectrum fourth‐generation cephalosporin, is widely used to treat nosocomial infections. Dependence upon renal elimination makes its pharmacokinetics highly susceptible to changes in renal function, which are common in critically ill patients.

Tagitinin C‐Rich Extract From Tithonia diversifolia (hemsl.) A. Gray Exerts Activity Against Pathogenic Bacteria and Biofilms

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 134, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The increasing prevalence of persistent and difficult‐to‐treat infections has intensified interest in natural compounds able to act on both planktonic bacteria and biofilm structures. Tithonia diversifolia, a species rich in bioactive metabolites such as tagitinin C, has emerged as a promising source of antimicrobial agents.

Effect of COVID‐19 Pandemic on Epidemiology and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Campylobacter Species, Salmonella enterica and Yersinia enterocolitica in Southwest Finland 2018–2022

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 134, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the effect of the COVID‐19 pandemic on the epidemiology and antimicrobial susceptibility of fecal Campylobacter spp., Salmonella enterica, and Yersinia enterocolitica strains in Southwest Finland from 2018 to 2022. Results show that the number of travel‐associated S. enterica and Campylobacter spp.
