The relative effects of some elements on the DNS method in cellulase assay

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2006
For evaluating the relative effects of some polluting salts on the measurement of cellulase activity assayed by 3,5-dinitrosalicylate (DNS) this study was done. Glucose and cellulase solutions have been treated with salts.

Integrated biorefinery for cellulosic ethanol and spherical nanolignin production from coconut waste

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Green coconut waste was subjected to different fractionation methods to obtain integrated lignin nanoparticles and cellulosic ethanol. Pretreatment with gradual addition of dilute sulfuric acid provided a higher structural hemicellulose precursor yield (68.2%).

Agave Leaves as a Substrate for the Production of Cellulases by Penicillium sp. and the Obtainment of Reducing Sugars

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2020
Lignocellulosic biomass can be used to obtain fermentable sugars by enzymatic hydrolysis, and also it serves as a carbon source to produce cellulases by solid-state fermentation.

Stage‐Dependent Metabolic Reprogramming Drives a Self‐Organizing Microbial Network During Shanxi Aged Vinegar

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
Metabolic shifts from growth to stress adaptation in Shanxi aged vinegar fermentation link flavor maturation and microbial cooperation, and Lactobacillus and Acetobacter form a self‐organizing metabolic network through division of labor. ABSTRACT Acetic acid fermentation (AAF) is a vital stage in the production of Shanxi aged vinegar (SAV), during ...

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Structures of exoglucanase fromClostridium cellulovorans: cellotetraose binding and cleavage [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F Structural Biology Communications, 2015
Exoglucanase/cellobiohydrolase (EC 3.2.1.176) hydrolyzes a β-1,4-glycosidic bond from the reducing end of cellulose and releases cellobiose as the major product. Three complex crystal structures of the glycosyl hydrolase 48 (GH48) cellobiohydrolase S (ExgS) fromClostridium cellulovoranswith cellobiose, cellotetraose and triethylene glycol molecules ...

Advancements and Challenges in Second‐ and Third‐Generation Biofuels: A Comparative Analysis of Lignocellulosic and Algal Feedstocks

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advanced biofuels derived from nonfood biomass are increasingly recognized as strategic components of low‐carbon energy systems, particularly for sectors where direct electrification remains difficult. Second‐generation biofuels from lignocellulosic residues and third‐generation biofuels from algal and aquatic biomass offer complementary ...

Toward Efficient Cellulosic Biomass Breakdown: Enzymatic Innovation and Kinetic Insights

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 6, June 2026.
By combining a processive GH7, CBM2a, and GH3 into single enzyme, the GCG fusion protein effectively breaks down crystalline cellulose. This tri‐domain architecture reduces cellobiose inhibition at the cellulose surface allowing for the simultaneous targeting of the substrate, depolymerization, and removal of products.
