A NOTE ON PODOCONIS MEGASPERMA BOEDIJN

open access: yesReinwardtia, 1975
The lectotype specimen of Podoeonis megasperma is selected and thisspecies is reclassified as Exosporium megaspermum (Boedijn) Rifai, anewly proposed combination. An illustrated redescription is presented.

The sps Genes Encode an Original Legionaminic Acid Pathway Required for Crust Assembly in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesmBio, 2020
The crust is the outermost spore layer of most Bacillus strains devoid of an exosporium. This outermost layer, composed of both proteins and carbohydrates, plays a major role in the adhesion and spreading of spores into the environment.

Silver stain PAGE of exosporium of ΔywdL compared to wild-type.

open access: yes, 2013
Lane 1 corresponds to molecular weight protein standards. Lane 2 shows fully washed B. cereus wild-type exosporium and lane 3 shows fully washed ΔywdL exosporium. The same amount of total protein (15 µg) was applied to each lane for comparison.

Fight or flee, a vital choice for Clostridioides difficile

open access: yesmLife, Volume 3, Issue 1, Page 14-20, March 2024.
Abstract Clostridioides difficile is a leading cause of healthcare‐associated infections, causing billions of economic losses every year. Its symptoms range from mild diarrhea to life‐threatening damage to the colon. Transmission and recurrence of C. difficile infection (CDI) are mediated by the metabolically dormant spores, while the virulence of C ...

Exosporium gymnemae sp. nov. from India

open access: yesMycosphere, 2015
A new species, Exosporium gymnemae is proposed as a saprobe associated with dead stems of Gymnema sylvestre. It has distinct morphological characters, especially the conidiophores which form large, compact, blackish brown synnemata with glazed surface and cylindrical to obclavate conidia with dark bands at the septa.

A Bivalent Protein r-PAbxpB Comprising PA Domain IV and Exosporium Protein BxpB Confers Protection Against B. anthracis Spores and Toxin

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Anthrax vaccines primarily relying only on protective antigen (PA), the cell binding component in anthrax toxins provide incomplete protection when challenged with spores of virulent encapsulated Bacillus anthracis strains.

Convergent evolution of diverse Bacillus anthracis outbreak strains toward altered surface oligosaccharides that modulate anthrax pathogenesis.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2020
Bacillus anthracis, a spore-forming gram-positive bacterium, causes anthrax. The external surface of the exosporium is coated with glycosylated proteins. The sugar additions are capped with the unique monosaccharide anthrose. The West African Group (WAG)

Reliable delineation of Clostridioides difficile and related members of the family Peptostreptococcaceae using phylogenomics and spore coat protein-specific molecular markers

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Traditional bacterial classification relies on phenotypic traits (e.g., morphology and metabolic profiles), but these methods lack resolution for closely related taxa and are biased by culture conditions.

Cysteine proteases and how YabG fits into clan CD of the MEROPS database

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology
Cysteine proteases are hydrolases that share a common catalytic mechanism involving a nucleophilic cysteine thiol in a catalytic dyad or triad. Here, we review the current clans that make up the cysteine proteases in the MEROPS database as of March 2025.

Effect of tcdR Mutation on Sporulation in the Epidemic Clostridium difficile Strain R20291

open access: yesmSphere, 2017
Clostridium difficile is an important nosocomial pathogen and the leading cause of hospital-acquired diarrhea. Antibiotic use is the primary risk factor for the development of C.
