Model for the cleavage of SpoIIP by SpoIVB2 during sporulation in Clostridioides difficile. Soon after engulfment completion, SpoIVB2 cleaves SpoIIP, part of the engulfasome complex, to generate the SpoIIPc form. The function of SpoIVB2 is required for synthesis of the cortex layer which takes place across the outer forespore membrane.

Cryo-EM analysis of the organization of BclA and BxpB in the Bacillus anthracis exosporium [PDF]
Bacillus anthracis and other pathogenic Bacillus species form spores that are surrounded by an exosporium, a balloon-like layer that acts as the outer permeability barrier of the spore and contributes to spore survival and virulence. The exosporium consists of a hair-like nap and a paracrystalline basal layer.

The progression of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is shaped by multiple factors, such as antibiotic usage, age, comorbidities, immune gene polymorphisms, and antibody levels. Among these, the immune response stands out as a pivotal determinant in controlling both the course and severity of CDI.

Abstract Bacillus atrophaeus and Bacillus pumilus spores are widely used as biological indicators to assess the effectiveness of decontamination procedures. Spores are intricate, multi‐layered cellular structures primarily composed of proteins, which significantly contribute to their extreme resistance.

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) and deep learning have the potential for the detection and quantification of germination in Bacillus cereus spores. The spectral data in the visible‐near‐infrared range are sensitive to unique structural and chemical characteristics specific to spores, setting them apart from their vegetative counterparts and non‐biological ...

Molecular tiling on the surface of a bacterial spore - the exosporium of the Bacillus anthracis/cereus/thuringiensis group [PDF]
Bacteria of the genera Bacillus and Clostridium form highly resistant spores, which in the case of some pathogens act as the infectious agents. An exosporium forms the outermost layer of some spores; it plays roles in protection, adhesion, dissemination,

Commodity risk assessment of Tilia cordata and Tilia platyphyllos plants from the UK
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Tilia cordata and T.
