Characterization of Phylogroups, Virulence Factors and Antimicrobial Resistance in Canine Pyometra‐associated Escherichia coli

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study characterized 56 Escherichia coli isolates obtained from canine pyometra, which predominantly belonged to phylogroup B2 and harboured multiple virulence genes, with high multidrug resistance rates indicating potential clinical and zoonotic risks. ABSTRACT The presence of multidrug‐resistant extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC)

Global Genomic Epidemiology of Escherichia coli (ExPEC) ST38 Lineage Revealed a Virulome Associated with Human Infections

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Background: Most of the extraintestinal human infections worldwide are caused by specific extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) lineages, which also present a zoonotic character. One of these lineages belongs to ST38, a high-risk globally disseminated ExPEC. To get insights on the aspects of the global ST38 epidemiology and evolution as a

Using Ongoing Wildlife Surveillance Programs to Monitor Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria in the Environment

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
Screening of ESBL‐, pAmpC‐ and carbapenemase‐producing Escherichia coli among Swedish wildlife demonstrated a low occurrence of antibiotic resistance in wild animals. Only two ESBL/pAmpC‐producers were detected in red foxes originating from highly populated areas.

Multidrug resistance of bacterial pathogens in canine pyometra

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 67, Issue 7, Page 627-634, July 2026.
Objectives To characterise multidrug antimicrobial resistance and pathogenicity profiles of bacteria isolated from different anatomical sites in bitches with pyometra, emphasising their clinical relevance for diagnosis and therapeutic decision‐making in small animal practice.

Use of zebrafish to probe the divergent virulence potentials and toxin requirements of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2009
Extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) cause an array of diseases, including sepsis, neonatal meningitis, and urinary tract infections. Many putative virulence factors that might modulate ExPEC pathogenesis have been identified through sequencing ...

Earthworms With Low Dose n‐MoS2 Improve Soybean Yield and Quality by Reconfiguring Rhizosphere Chemistry and Strengthening Nitrogen Fixation

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Nano‐enabled fertilizers can enhance biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) and yield in legumes; yet, their interactions with earthworms remain poorly understood. Herein, we performed a 120‐day greenhouse experiment applying low‐dose n‐MoS2 at 10 mg kg−1 with earthworms to evaluate interactive effects on soybean yield and underlying mechanisms ...

Diagnosis of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli pathogenesis in urinary tract infection

open access: yesCurrent Research in Microbial Sciences
Extra-intestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) is a virulent pathogen found in humans that causes the majority of urinary tract infections, and other infections such as meningitis and sepsis.

Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli in poultry meat products on the Finnish retail market

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2012
Background Extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli bacteria (ExPEC) exist as commensals in the human intestines and can infect extraintestinal sites and cause septicemia.

Genomic epidemiology and lineage‐specific risk stratification of tet(X4)‐mediated tigecycline resistance along the pork production chain: A One Health perspective

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 2, June 2026.
Genome surveillance across a swine‐associated One Health continuum in China shows that slaughterhouses act as major enrichment nodes for tet(X4)‐mediated tigecycline resistance, driven by putative clonal transmission and stable plasmid backbones. Integrating global datasets enables lineage‐specific risk stratification, highlighting key control points ...

Systematic observations of enhanced oil recovery and associated changes at carbonate-brine and carbonate-petroleum interfaces

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) from carbonates is obtained by injection of controlled ionic strength brines containing “active ions” (e.g., SO4 2−, Mg2+, Ca2+).
