Rhodopsin-induced experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis in monkeys. [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 1989
We present the first evidence that purified rhodopsin can induce experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) in monkeys. Injection of a highly purified lipid-free rhodopsin preparation provokes severe chorioretinitis with concomitant anterior uveitis.

Increased Regulatory T Cells in Spleen during Experimental Autoimmune Uveoretinitis

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose: To investigate the role of Foxp3-positive regulatory T cells in the development of experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU). Methods: B10RIII mice were immunized with 50 mu g IRBP161-180 in complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) to induce EAU.

Experimental Autoimmune Uveoretinitis (EAU)-Related Tissue Damage and Angiogenesis Is Reduced in CCL2−/−CX3CR1gfp/gfp Mice

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose: To investigate the roles of the CCL2-CCR2 and CX3CL1-CX3CR1 pathways in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU)-mediated retinal tissue damage and angiogenesis. Methods: The C57BL/6J wild-type (WT) and CCL2−/−CX3CR1gfp/gfp (double knockout ...

Development of Clarstatin, a Novel Drug Lead for the Therapy of Autoimmune Uveitis

open access: yesPharmaceutics
We describe the design, synthesis, and activity of a potent thiourea-bridged backbone cyclic peptidomimetic known as Clarstatin, comprising a 5-amino acid sequence (Q/D)1-(R/K)2-X3-X4-A5-(Gln/Asp)1-(Arg/Lys)2-AA3-AA4-Ala5-based on a motif called “shared ...

TH2 activated cells prevent experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis, a TH1-dependent autoimmune disease

open access: yes, 1993
Mercuric chloride (HgCl2) injections protect (Lewis x Brown-Norway) F1 (F1) rats against experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) induced by immunization with the retinal S antigen (S-Ag); in contrast HgCl2-injected F1 rats develop EAU following ...

Use of optical coherence tomography and electroretinography to evaluate retinal pathology in a mouse model of autoimmune uveitis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) in mice is a model for human autoimmune uveitis. Longitudinal follow-up is only possible by non-invasive techniques, but the information obtained by visual fundus examination can be limited.

Systemic and local anti-C5 therapy reduces the disease severity in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis.

open access: yes, 2009
Activation of complement occurs during autoimmune retinal and intraocular inflammatory disease as well as neuroretinal degenerative disorders. The cleavage of C5 into fragments C5a and C5b is a critical event during the complement cascade.

Expression of the Inhibitory CD200 Receptor Is Associated with Alternative Macrophage Activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Classical macrophage activation is inhibited by the CD200 receptor (CD200R). Here, we show that CD200R expression was specifically induced on human in vitro polarized macrophages of the alternatively activated M2a subtype, generated by incubation with IL-

C-Type Lectin-Like Receptors As Emerging Orchestrators of Sterile Inflammation Represent Potential Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Over the last decade, C-type lectin-like receptors (CTLRs), expressed mostly by myeloid cells, have gained increasing attention for their role in the fine tuning of both innate and adaptive immunity.

Neutralizing TNF-alpha activity modulates T-cell phenotype and function in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis.

open access: yes, 1998
Inhibiting TNF-alpha activity prevents tissue destruction without inhibiting retinal T cell infiltration in experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) in Lewis rats.
