The Usual Suspects 2019: of Chips, Droplets, Synthesis, and Artificial Cells
Synthetic biology aims to understand fundamental biological processes in more detail than possible for actual living cells. Synthetic biology can combat decomposition and build-up of artificial experimental models under precisely controlled and defined ...

Sulphur systems biology—making sense of omics data
Systems biology approaches have been applied over the last two decades to study plant sulphur metabolism. These ‘sulphur-omics’ approaches have been developed in parallel with the advancing field of systems biology, which is characterized by permanent ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

BioPreDyn-bench: a suite of benchmark problems for dynamic modelling in systems biology
BackgroundDynamic modelling is one of the cornerstones of systems biology. Many research efforts are currently being invested in the development and exploitation of large-scale kinetic models.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Use of Neurospora crassa as fungus model for systems biology of Moniliophthora perniciosa hyphae proteins: case study of polygalacturonases : S01P13 [PDF]
Moniliophthora perniciosa, the fungus responsible for the witches' broom disease, brought serious problems to cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) cultivation in the infected areas such as in Southern Bahia, Brazil.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Experiment Selection for the Discrimination of Semi-Quantitative Models of Dynamical Systems [PDF]
Modeling an experimental system often results in a number of alternative models that are all justified by the available experimental data. In order to discriminate between these models, additional experiments are needed.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
