Meat and Fish as Sources of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase–Producing Escherichia coli, Cambodia

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2019
We compared extended-spectrum β-lactamase–producing Escherichia coli isolates from meat and fish, gut-colonized women, and infected patients in Cambodia.

Extended spectrum β-lactamase producers among nosocomial Enterobacteriaceae in Latin America [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2014
To review the epidemiology of nosocomial extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae in Latin America, a systematic search of the biomedical literature (PubMed) was performed for articles published since 2005.

Examining the Clinical Effectiveness of Non-Carbapenem β-Lactams for the Treatment of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2015
Treatment options for extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae are limited. Piperacillin-tazobactam and cefepime represent potential alternative treatment options; however, large prospective studies are lacking.

Empirical treatment and mortality in bacteremia due to extended spectrum β-lactamase producing Enterobacterales (ESβL-E), a retrospective cross-sectional study in a tertiary referral hospital from Colombia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials, 2023
Background Infections caused by extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESβL) producing bacteria are common and problematic. When they cause bloodstream infections, they are associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Novel GES/IBC extended-spectrum β-lactamase variants with carbapenemase activity in clinical enterobacteria [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2004
Two clinical isolates, an Escherichia coli and a Klebsiella pneumoniae, with decreased susceptibility to carbapenems were studied. This phenotype was associated with production of novel GES/IBC variant β-lactamases, designated GES-3 (from E. coli) and GES-4 (from K. pneumoniae), exhibiting carbapenemase activity.

Phenotypic Characterization of Multidrug-resistant Escherichia Coli with Special Reference to Extended-spectrum-beta-lactamases and Metallo-beta-lactamases in a Tertiary Care Center

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2015
Introduction: The increasing reports on extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase and metallo-betalactamase producing Escherichia coli have addressed a potential threat to global health since it is found to be highly resistance to most of the currently available ...

High Prevalence of Multidrug-Resistant and Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae: A Cross-Sectional Study at Arsho Advanced Medical Laboratory, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, 2020
Background. Multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae particularly extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producers have become a major public health threat. Despite efforts to limit their spread, rates of multidrug-resistance members of the Enterobacteriaceae ...

SUSCEPTIBILITY AND DETECTION OF EXTENDED SPECTRUM β-LACTAMASE ENZYMES FROM OTITIS MEDIA PATHOGENS [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2013
Otitis media is the bacterial infection of the middle ear usually accompanied with inflammation, effusions and pain. It can present clinically in two major forms: Acute Otitis Media (AOM) and Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) and it is one of the leading cause of hospital visits and antibiotic prescriptions amongst children and even adults.

High colonization rates of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND International travel contributes to the worldwide spread of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria. Rates of travel-related faecal colonization with extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae vary for different ...
