Asymmetric Single‐Atom Catalysts Govern Diffusible and Non‐Diffusible Non‐Radical Pathways for Selective Degradation of Antibiotic Resistance Genes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Asymmetric single‐atom metal‐nitrogen‐carbon catalysts modulate the non‐radical pathway during peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. A fundamental contrast was revealed between diffusible singlet oxygen (1O2) and non‐diffusible electron‐transfer pathways (ETP) in antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) degradation.

Probing the Role of Asn 152 in the Class C β-lactamase AmpC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
AmpC, a class C β-lactamase, is a main cause of antibiotic resistance to cephalosporins in many species of bacteria. The current proposed mechanism of action involves an acyl-intermediate, where the enzyme becomes covalently attached to the drug at ...

Table_1_Whole Genome Sequencing of Extended-Spectrum- and AmpC- β-Lactamase-Positive Enterobacterales Isolated From Spinach Production in Gauteng Province, South Africa.XLSX

open access: yes, 2021
The increasing occurrence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) extended-spectrum β-lactamase- (ESBL) and/or AmpC β-lactamase- (AmpC) producing Enterobacterales in irrigation water and associated irrigated fresh produce represents risks related to the environment,

Whole genome sequencing of extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from a patient in Lebanon [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2015
The emergence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria is now a critical concern. The ESBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae constitutes one of the most common multidrug-resistant (MDR) groups of gram-negative bacteria involved in nosocomial infections worldwide.

Innovative Test Strip‐Based Colorimetric Sensors Integrated With Affinity Chromatography: Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor Screening Breakthrough in Lycium Barbarum Leaves

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic diagrams illustrating the breakthrough in the screening of AChE inhibitors from LBL, and the research process of the pharmacodynamics of the NCP are presented. ABSTRACT Current Alzheimer's drugs exhibit limited effectiveness, highlighting the necessity for multi‐target treatments.

Integron-encoded GES-type extended-spectrum ß-lactamase with increased activity toward aztreonam in Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain expresses an extended-spectrum β-lactamase, GES-9, which differs from GES-1 by a Gly243Ser substitution, is inhibited by clavulanic acid and imipenem, and hydrolyzes aztreonam.

Rapid Multiplex Antimicrobial Resistance Profiling and Bacterial Identification by LAP‐MALDI Mass Spectrometry Biotyping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liquid atmospheric pressure matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (LAP‐MALDI) mass spectrometry (MS) provides multiplexed biotyping of microbial cultures using a fast and simple workflow. This is demonstrated for clinically relevant bacteria, resulting in accurate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection, speciation by MS/MS sequencing and ...

Carbapenem resistance in extensively drug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Agona and AmpC β-lactamase-producing S. Infantis

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
We report that carbapenem resistance developed in an extensively drug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Agona strain during antimicrobial therapy and in an AmpC β-lactamase-producing S. Infantis strain.

Integrating One Health to Mitigate the Emergence and Spread of Antimicrobial Resistance in Livestock and Aquaculture

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global threat driven by antimicrobial use in aquaculture and livestock. Resistant pathogens and genes can spread across humans, animals, and the environment through interconnected ecosystems. Using a One Health approach, this review emphasizes antimicrobial stewardship, regulatory strengthening, enhanced ...
