Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) has been developed to extend the identification of SHV beta-lactamases previously characterised by PCR-single strand conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analysis alone. Eight bacteria, each producing a different SHV beta-lactamase, were used in this study.

Prevalence of Multidrug‐Resistant Bacteria on Hospital Face Masks: A Surveillance Report

Hospital masks can harbor Klebsiella michiganensis for at least 24 h after disposal. This enteric bacterium poses a risk to immunocompromised patients and highlights the need for improved mask decontamination protocols to prevent hospital‐associated infections.

Thirteen clinical strains of bacteria from two Irish hospitals were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa using classical methods, API 20NE and Biolog GN. Their identification was confirmed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
