Mathematical Modelling of Different Types of Body Support Surface for Pressure Ulcer Prevention [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pressure ulcer is a common problem for today’s healthcare industry. It occurs due to external load applied to the skin. Also when the subject is immobile for a longer period of time and there is continuous load applied to a particular area of human body,

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Uncovering the Latent Components of Physical Performance in Professional Soccer: Evidence from the Turkish First Division

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology
Background: Physical performance in soccer is usually described through isolated indicators such as total distance or sprint frequency, which may overlook the broader structure of match demands. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the latent components

Training load monitoring by position and task in professional men´s basketball

open access: yesE-balonmano.com: Revista de Ciencias del Deporte, 2021
The aim of this study was to analyze the training load of the different tasks of a professional basketball team, based on the tasks and player positions. A total of 10 professional basketball players participated (Mage = 23.70; SD = 2.26) who carried out

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

A Mechanical Casing Confining Pressure Simulation Method

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2017
The casing confining pressure is usually applied to the casing by hydraulic pressure, which can only provide uniform load and cannot simulate the non-uniform load of the formation due to the characteristics of the liquid. To address the issue, a new test
