Extracellular acidosis minimizes actin cytoskeletal alterations during ATP depletion
American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 1994Extracellular acidosis has been shown to be protective during ischemia in renal tubule cells. However, the mechanism of protection remains unknown. Since ischemia leads to disruption and polymerization of the cortical actin cytoskeleton, we hypothesized acidosis may better preserve the actin cytoskeleton during ischemia.

2018Pathogenesis of tumour development comprises among others changes of its microenvironment that can be caused by tumour cells or stroma cells like fibroblasts and include extracellular acidosis. AbstractMicrodialysis‐perfusion of the urethane‐anesthetized rat hippocampus was performed to assess the effects of acidosis on extracellular amino acids. Perfusion with Krebs‐Ringer bicarbonate buffer at pH 6.9 produced a selective decrease in taurine. A further reduction of pH to 6.4 induced diminished glutamate levels.

Extracellular acidosis delays onset of cell death in ATP-depleted hepatocytes
American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1988A fluorometric assay using propidium iodide total fluorescence was utilized to quantitate cell viability in hepatocyte suspensions continuously. For viable hepatocytes exposed to KCN, fluorescence was linearly proportional to lactate dehydrogenase release and to nuclear labeling by propidium iodide.
