Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Robust Facility Location Problem for Bio-waste Transportation

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
The article presents an optimisation tool for bio-waste facility allocation. The quantity of bio-waste produced in individual territorial units is a key factor for the selection of localities when constructing a new facility. Bio-waste production changes

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

A simulation based research on chance constrained programming in robust facility location problem

open access: yesOpen Physics, 2017
Since facility location decisions problem include long-term character and potential parameter variations, it is important to consider uncertainty in its modeling.

Red–Blue k-Center Clustering with Distance Constraints

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
We consider a variant of the k-center clustering problem in IRd, where the centers can be divided into two subsets—one, the red centers of size p, and the other, the blue centers of size q, such that p+q=k, and each red center and each blue center must ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

On a branch-and-bound approach for a Huff-like Stackelberg location problem

open access: yes, 2009
Modelling the location decision of two competing firms that intend to build a new facility in a planar market can be done by a Huff-like Stackelberg location problem.

Undesirable Facility Location under Uncertainty: Modeling and Algorithm [PDF]

open access: yesمدیریت تولید و عملیات, 2019
: In undesirable facility location problem contrary to desirable location, facilities are located far from service receiver facilities as much as possible. The problem of locating such facilities is discussed in this study.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Optimal Facility-Location

open access: yesJournal of Research of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2006
Dr. Christoph Witzgall, the honoree of this Symposium, can count among his many contributions to applied mathematics and mathematical operations research a body of widely-recognized work on the optimal location of facilities. The present paper offers to non-specialists a sketch of that field and its evolution, with emphasis on areas most closely ...
