Production Diversity and Socioeconomic Characteristics of Household Farms

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Science, 2016
The level of production diversity chosen by small household farms may not be optimal from a social perspective, due to the existence of market failures such as environmental externalities or barriers to credit. Public policies designed to stimulate more diversified crops are supposed to correct that inefficiency.

Diversified agriculture leads to diversified diets: panel data evidence from Bangladesh

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2023
This study used a panel data model to examine the relationship between agricultural diversification and dietary diversity of farm households across three waves of nationally representative Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey data (BIHS- 2011-12, 2015,

Effect of species diversity on particle clearance and productivity in farmed bivalves [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2020
Most bivalve farms are designed as monocultures, yet diverse communities often outperform monocultures in various metrics of ecosystem functioning, including particle clearance and productivity. This study tested the feasibility of bivalve polyculture by examining particle clearance, growth, and survival of 4 species that are economically important to ...

Spatial and temporal variation in crop diversity in agroforestry homegardens of southern Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A key assumption in many homegarden studies is that homegardens are ecologically and socio-economically sustainable due to their species diversity. The precise relation between diversity and sustainability is still heavily debated, however.

Incorporating Diversity Into Animal Production Systems Can Increase Their Performance and Strengthen Their Resilience

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2020
Animal production systems (APSs) have long been transformed through intensification, specialization and geographical concentration, leading them to become major anthropogenic drivers of pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

Diversity of pig production systems at farm level in Europe

open access: yesJournal on Chain and Network Science, 2011
The present study was undertaken to perform an inventory of pig production systems, at farm level. The main aim was to document the variety of existing production systems in European countries. Information was collected from available sources, mostly national experts and literature, regarding target markets and information management, apparent degree ...

A Systematic Study of GelMA‐Carbopol Bioinks for High‐Fidelity Extrusion 3D Bioprinting at Physiological Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gonzalez Martinez and collaborators develop a strategy to formulate high performance GelMA‐based bioinks with low solids contents. The resulting bioinks enable 3D bioprinting at 37 °C of high‐fidelity structures with tunable mechanical properties that support high cell viability and function.

Flexible Chemiresistive Chitosan‐Glycerol Sensors on Laser‐Induced Graphene Electrodes for Room‐Temperature Ammonia Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Flexible Chitosan‐glycerol sensor integrated with porous laser‐induced graphene (LIG) electrodes enable room‐temperature chemiresistive detection of ammonia (NH3) and proof‐of‐concept detection of fish spoilage. ABSTRACT We report a metal‐free sensor platform combining laser induced graphene (LIG) electrodes with drop‐deposited, glycerol‐plasticized ...
