Using Interpolation for Fast and Accurate Calculation of Ion–Ion Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014
We perform extensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations between pairs of ions of various diameters (2-5.5 Å in increments of 0.5 Å) and charge (+1 or -1) interacting in explicit water (TIP3P) under ambient conditions. We extract their potentials of mean force (PMFs).

Fast Lithium Ion Conduction in Lithium Phosphidoaluminates [PDF]

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, 2020
AbstractSolid electrolyte materials are crucial for the development of high‐energy‐density all‐solid‐state batteries (ASSB) using a nonflammable electrolyte. In order to retain a low lithium‐ion transfer resistance, fast lithium ion conducting solid electrolytes are required.

Fast Ion Conductors

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, 1979
The results of transmission electron microscopy and their relation to some practical aspects of Na β‐ nd β‐alumina solid electrolytes are reviewed. Grain and grain‐boundary morphology, crystallographic defects, nonstoichiometry, and second‐phase formation are discussed.

The NSTX fast-ion D-alpha diagnostic [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2008
A new diagnostic, aimed at energy-resolved measurements of the spatial and temporal dynamics of fast ions in NSTX plasmas, is described. It is based on active charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy. The fast-ion signal is inferred from light emitted in the wavelength range of the Dα line by fast ions recombining with an injected neutral beam.

Diagnosis of fast ions produced by negative-ion neutral-beam injection with fast-ion deuterium-alpha spectroscopy

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2019
Negative-ion neutral-beam injection (NNBI) is an important source of heating and current drive for next-step fusion devices where the injected energy can range from hundreds of keV to 1 MeV. Few diagnostics are suitable for phase-space resolved measurements of fast ions with energy in excess of 100 keV.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Influence of sawtooth oscillations on fast ions in a stellarator

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Sawtooth oscillations in tokamaks frequently lead to the redistribution of energetic ions, mainly on passing orbits, causing their expulsion from the core.

Entropy and Isokinetic Temperature in Fast Ion Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2023
AbstractIon transport in crystalline solids is an essential process for many electrochemical energy converters such as solid‐state batteries and fuel cells. Empirical data have shown that ion transport in crystal lattices obeys the Meyer‐Neldel Rule (MNR).

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
