Impact of interaction between RF waves and fast NBI ions on the fusion performance in JET DTE2 campaign

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
This work presents a study of the interaction between radio frequency (RF) waves used for ion cyclotron resonance heating and the fast deuterium (D) and tritium (T) neutral Beam injected (NBI) ions in DT plasma.

Complex lithium ion dynamics in simulated LiPO3 glass studied by means of multi-time correlation functions

open access: yes, 2003
Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to study the lithium jumps in LiPO3 glass. In particular, we calculate higher-order correlation functions that probe the positions of single lithium ions at several times. Three-time correlation functions show

The NSTX fast-ion D-alpha diagnostic [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2008
A new diagnostic, aimed at energy-resolved measurements of the spatial and temporal dynamics of fast ions in NSTX plasmas, is described. It is based on active charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy. The fast-ion signal is inferred from light emitted in the wavelength range of the Dα line by fast ions recombining with an injected neutral beam.

Fast-ion physics in SPARC [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics, 2020
Potential loss of energetic ions including alphas and radio-frequency tail ions due to classical orbit effects and magnetohydrodynamic instabilities (MHD) are central physics issues in the design and experimental physics programme of the SPARC tokamak.

Real-time implementation of the high-fidelity NBI code RABBIT into the discharge control system of ASDEX Upgrade

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
For the first time, a real-time capable NBI code, which has a comparable fidelity to the much more computationally expensive Monte Carlo codes such as NUBEAM, has been coupled to the discharge control system of a tokamak.

4D and 5D phase-space tomography using slowing-down physics regularization

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
We compute reconstructions of 4D and 5D fast-ion phase-space distribution functions in fusion plasmas from synthetic projections of these functions. The fast-ion phase-space distribution functions originating from neutral beam injection (NBI) at TCV and ...

Collective charge excitations along cell membranes

open access: yes, 2004
A significant part of the thin layers of counter-ions adjacent to the exterior and interior surfaces of a cell membrane form quasi-two-dimensional (2D) layers of mobile charge.

Nonclassical Imaging for a quantum search of trapped ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We discuss a simple search problem which can be pursued with different methods, either on a classical or on a quantum basis. The system is represented by a chain of trapped ions.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Influence of sawtooth oscillations on fast ions in a stellarator

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Sawtooth oscillations in tokamaks frequently lead to the redistribution of energetic ions, mainly on passing orbits, causing their expulsion from the core.
