Orbit simulations of fast-ion transport induced by externally applied 3D magnetic perturbations in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Externally applied 3D magnetic perturbations break the symmetry of the magnetic field in a tokamak and have an impact on the transport of fast-ions, i.e. suprathermal ions.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Dynamics of the fast-ion acceleration in type-I ELMy H-mode scenarios on the TCV tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Fast ions have been observed to be accelerated in the presence of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs) and MHD activity on the Tokamak á Configuration Variable. The acceleration time, velocity-space and frequency dynamics have been resolved by analysing the fast ...

Fast separation of two trapped ions

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We design fast protocols to separate or recombine two ions in a segmented Paul trap. By inverse engineering the time evolution of the trapping potential composed of a harmonic and a quartic term, it is possible to perform these processes in a few ...

Optimization of the operational domain for ICRH scenarios in WEST from statistical analysis

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
In the WEST tokamak, the Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH) system plays a substantial role in increasing the plasma temperature. However, its efficiency can be lowered by two main phenomena: ripple-induced fast ion losses and technical limits on the

HITRAP: A facility at GSI for highly charged ions

open access: yes, 2007
An overview and status report of the new trapping facility for highly charged ions at the Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung is presented. The construction of this facility started in 2005 and is expected to be completed in 2008.

Calibration techniques for fast-ion Dα diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 2012
Fast-ion Dα measurements are an application of visible charge-exchange recombination (CER) spectroscopy that provide information about the energetic ion population. Like other CER diagnostics, the standard intensity calibration is obtained with an integrating sphere during a vacuum vessel opening.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Analysis of pitch distribution from passive imaging neutral particle analyzer signal in EAST

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The experimental measurements reveal that a notable characteristic of the imaging neutral particle analyzer (INPA) passive signal in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak is its bimodal distribution in the pitch angle ( ${v_\parallel }/v$ ).

Preliminary study of velocity-space distribution of fast-ion loss under ion cyclotron resonance heating in the EAST

open access: yesHe jishu, 2023
BackgroundScintillator-based fast-ion loss detector (FILD) can measure the velocity-space distribution of fast-ion loss and are key in studying the control mechanism of fast-ion loss in nuclear fusion devices.PurposeThis study aims to obtain the velocity-
