Helix or Coil? Fate of a Melting Heteropolymer

open access: yes, 2008
We determine the probability that a partially melted heteropolymer at the melting temperature will either melt completely or return to a helix state. This system is equivalent to the splitting probability for a diffusing particle on a finite interval ...

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Breaking the link between morphology and potency for mESCs

open access: yesCell & Bioscience
Background In stem cell biology, a long-held structure–function relationship is the domed colony morphology and naïve pluripotency for mouse or human pluripotent stem cells. This link has provided a convenient way to recognize bona fide naïve pluripotent

Fate of baby radio galaxies: Dead or Alive ?

open access: yes, 2008
In order to reveal the long-term evolution of relativistic jets in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), we examine the dynamical evolution of variously-sized radio galaxies [i.e., compact symmetric objects (CSOs), medium-size symmetric objects (MSOs), Fanaroff-

VIVID: A qPCR‐Based Platform for Sensitive and Quantitative In Vivo Tracking of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces VIVID (Vesicle In Vivo Identification using DNA), a qPCR‐based platform that tracks PCR‐amplifiable DNA tags loaded in the EVs for accurate and quantifiable EV biodistribution in vivo. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) represent promising carriers for nucleic acid therapeutics, offering advantages over synthetic nanoparticles ...

Proteomic profiling of UV damage repair patches uncovers histone chaperones with central functions in chromatin repair

open access: yesNature Communications
DNA damage compromises not only genome stability but also chromatin integrity, which plays a central role in controlling cell identity. Chromatin repair entails the deposition of new histones at sites of DNA damage.

Nanodiamond‐Based Quantum Sensing Reveals Changes in Endo‐Lysosomal Activity of Stimulated Cardiac Fibroblasts in a Cellular Fibrosis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum sensing reveals intricate patterns linking endo‐lysosomal maturation to cardiac fibrosis progression, highlighting complexity in cellular remodeling. This study investigates fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast transition under cell aging, stiffness, and TGF‐β stimulation, comparing nanodiamond uptake, endo‐lysosomal dynamics, and free radical ...

Implications of differences between temperate and tropical freshwater ecosystems for the ecological risk assessment of pesticides [PDF]

open access: yes
Despite considerable increased pesticide use over the past decades, little research has been done into their fate and effects in surface waters in tropical regions.

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.
