Overview of Protein and Fe Intake With The Event of Anemia In Adolescent: Systematic Review

open access: yesPlacentum, 2023
Background: Adolescents are a group that is prone to anemia. Anemia is defined as a lower than normal haemoglobin level. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in Indonesia is the highest at the age group of 15-24 years, 32%.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

An ethylene response factor (MxERF4) functions as a repressor of Fe acquisition in Malus xiaojinensis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Iron (Fe) is an essential element for plants; however, its availability is limited as it forms insoluble complexes in the soil. Consequently, plants have developed mechanisms to adapt to low Fe conditions.

Augmenter of liver regeneration regulates cellular iron homeostasis by modulating mitochondrial transport of ATP-binding cassette B8

open access: yeseLife, 2021
Chronic loss of Augmenter of Liver Regeneration (ALR) results in mitochondrial myopathy with cataracts; however, the mechanism for this disorder remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that loss of ALR, a principal component of the MIA40/ALR protein import

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Mitochondrial ferritin is a functional iron-storage protein in cucumber (Cucumis sativus) roots

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
In plants, intracellular Fe trafficking must satisfy chloroplasts’ and mitochondrial demands for Fe without allowing its accumulation in the organelles in dangerous redox-active forms. Protein ferritin is involved in such homeostatic control, however its

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Mitochondria function in cytoplasmic FeS protein biogenesis

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research
Iron‑sulfur (FeS) clusters are cofactors of numerous proteins involved in essential cellular functions including respiration, protein translation, DNA synthesis and repair, ribosome maturation, anti-viral responses, and isopropylmalate isomerase activity.

Activation of STAT3 by the c-Fes Protein-tyrosine Kinase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
STATs (signal transducers and activators of transcription) are transcription factors that contain SH2 domains and are activated by tyrosine phosphorylation, often in response to cytokine stimulation. Recent evidence indicates that the transforming tyrosine kinases encoded by the v-Src, v-Abl, and v-Fps oncogenes can induce STAT activation, suggesting ...
